Net Carbs? What exactly does that mean?

I was looking at protein bars the other day and the front said

something like net carbs 8 but when I turned it over to look at the

back it said total carbs were a different number. I am still trying

to figure out this whole carb thing. Can someone please tell me what

net carb is in relation to total carbs per serving? Thanks.
