Guest guest
Katelyn, I know exactly what you are talking about. I am totally affected by food texture. When I ordered my zipnsqueeze (which I didn't really need) the order person strongly urged me to get their recipe book too.... No thanks!!! Some things should NOT be a liquid consistency. Somethings are supposed to be cosumed with chewing, not drinking! Yikes!! Needless to say, I had a rather poor diet after my surgery, but I did my best, survived, and am no worse for the wear. I was not banded shut or wired after my surgery, so I could open my mouth enough to accomodate a shallow spoon and that is how I ate- slurping food off the spoon and swallowing it straight-away. I ate jello and custard that my mom made for me, mashed potatoes ( could get around the idea of more " soupy " mashed potatoes ) so my mom added a lot of extra milk, melted in cheese, and even added eggs or sometimes very very finely ground chicken ( I couldn't taste the eggs or the chicken, but they were good protein sources). Let's see, I also had chicken broth soup, milkshakes, and LOTS of milk and milk with carnation instant breakfast or milk combined with boost. I could not drink the boost straight because it was SO sickeningly sweet. I found blending stuff disgusting. We tried once, but I was so repulsed by it that I couldn't eat much of it and trying to clean my mouth and teeth afterwards was 10x as miserable as usual. Anyway, I don't know what to tell you except for good luck! The time passes, and I totally understand how you feel! Guest guest
OMG Thankyou for understanding!!! everyone is telling me that i will get over it and i know that there is now way i will!!! I cant even eat things like cottage cheese because the texture is just so nasty!!! i am going to be wired shut for about 6 weeks, but i wonder if there is a way that i will be able to eat soupy mashed potatoes, because that i could deal with. my sister is a chef so i told her to come up with some creamy soups recipies that i would eat... hopefully she will be creative, but not too creative! anyway, how long ago did you have your surgery? how was your recovery? thankyou so much for understanding... katelyn : ) > > > > everyone is talking about getting creative and blending things that > dont belong > > in a blender > > such a cereal, tomatoes, bread.... my doctor even said that he has > heard of > > people blending > > things like pizza.... > > i dont know what i am going to do... i have serious food issues! im > not a picky > > eater but i > > have problems with the textures of foods! i get really grossed out. > pizza > > definately should > > not be a soupy/ milk shake consistency! if something is the wrong > texture i just > > cant eat it. > > just thinking about it makes gag! looking at it, or smelling it > would definately > > make me > > vomit. > > the only things that seem like they belong in a blender to me are > chocolate, ice > > cream, fruit > > and tequila!!! > > i really dont know what i am going to do.... the only thing i am > going to be > > living off of is > > fruit smoothies and chicken broth.... Guest guest
You're welcome! It is likewise nice to know I'm not alone! I was not able to get over it.... the zipnsqueeze lady was trying to tell me that I should order that recipe book becauase I HAD to eat all these ground up things for the sake of my recovery. Then she proceeded to tell me that they had all kinds of great recipes- then to further her cause, she starts describing one for some kind of mexican food. She started describing grinding up refried beans, salsa, and milk, and then trying to persuade me that it would taste really great. RIGHT. BLECHT! At least you have the advantage of enlisting your sister's help! I'm sure she'll figure some good things out for you! I had my surgery 7 months ago- upper with split/lower/genio with rigid fixation. My recovery was pretty good. I had a few trials and delays along the way, but I'm getting there- just waiting for my teeth now to move into place and be done with these braces! That part is taking forever. What surgery will you be having and when?? Take care, and let me know what kind of things you figure out to " drink " ! Guest guest
Hi Katelyn I am with you on the blended foods that do not belong in the blender. I got some zip and squeeze bags but ended up not needing them as I could drink things through my teeth. As for blended foods....ahhhhh even some soup grossed me out blended. I stuck to chicken broth and beef broth and of course BOOST for the first week and then I tried some of those boxed tomato soups from Campbels that had a bit of veggies in and they were great but I had a bit of a time cleaning afterwards. I was really freaked out about not brushing so I tried to stick to fluids only with no bits but it gets hard. I had a lot of shakes with really blended bananas and ice cream and chocolate sauce. My sister flew out to help me and she concocted some stuff that was good but had I known what was in it I would have never drank it . She would put in raw eggs with the ice cream and bananas which is great for protein but YUCK. Also I had a bad experience with liquid multi vitamins...I bought Maltevol and it tasted so BAD that I dumped it down the sink..then I got this ogranic one made with carrots as the main base and it was great. A white bottle with orange lettering. This one I could handle. Oh yeah, one girl suggested to me to get wheat germ in order to help with going to the washroom...I just sprinkled a bit in the shakes so that you would not taste it and it worked just fine.
