Guest guest
Hi , You might need a script for oral antibiotics, as well as the Bactroban. Bran has had infections like that. As for the granulation tissue. We've never any problems with this either, until recently, and Bran's had his button for over 3 years. The Ped Surgeon thinks it's because of increased activity levels, although it first started during a period of infection, so maybe that could be part of the cause too??? I would ask whatever Dr will listen for a script of Triamcinalone Acetonide ..1% Cream. It comes in an 80 gram tube (about the size of a small tube of toothpaste) and it's done wonders on Bran's granulation tissue without the burning issues of silver nitrate. When we're having issues with both infection and granulation tissue this is the procedure I follow. First, I wash the stoma with a disinfectant soap, like Dial, and then I rinse it thoroughly. I pat it dry, and then pad the button with enough split 2x2s to keep the button from moving freely. Movement irritates the stoma, and exacerbates the growth of granulation tissue. If you can avoid using woven 2x2s, do. They have a tendency to flake small threads that get into the stoma and further irritate the situation. I tape the 2x2 on both the split edge, and the edge across from it, to minimize the movement of the 2x2 around the button. I then lift the edge of the 2x2 and make a thick ring of Triamcinalone around the button stem, covering any red inflamed tissue. I've found that this works better than putting on the Triamcinalone and then adding the 2x2. It usually takes about an hour for the Triamcinalone to absorb into the skin. When it is totally absorbed, I then lift the 2x2 and ring the stoma with the Bactroban. I repeat this procedure at least 3 times daily. Within 24-48 hours, Bran stops complaining about any pain in association with his button, or the movement of his button. We now use the Triamcinalone on a daily basis, both morning and before bed, and haven't had anymore problems with granulation tissue or infection! I hope this helps!
