Guest guest
Leanne, The webinar was a great source of information and I really enjoyed watching the replay. In watching the webinar I heard Mike Begley mention “no lettuce”. As a consumer of a lot of lettuce, I was wondering the reason for his statement. Guest guest
Ken, As I understand it it's a question of bacteria. Lettuce leaves (all kinds of lettuce apparently) have high enough levels of contamination with things like e coli and salmonella to make them a serious threat to someone who is immune suppressed. And obviously immune suppression is a key factor in post transplant life. From what I've read recently also washing does not eliminate these bacteria as it's been found that the contamination is actually internalized by the lettuce leaves which makes it impossible to wash away. Guest guest
Ken.... Beth, That is so interesting....that is one of the same things I picked up on too when he said it since I love salad. Beth....my folks both got food poisoning years ago on the last day of their cruise......... they determined it was most likely the lettuce.......they were too sick to fly home........ they had to stay the night in a hotel.
