I've been on 20mg for years. If I start to taper would it be 5mg at a time? Or less than that?

Also, I might add that the dr. who gave me the paxil upped the dose from 10 mg to 40 mg in a matter of a month and a half.I don't know if that also played a part on my rapid heart rate.

Hi ,

How long were you on Paxil? Did you taper off of it? Any withdrawal symptoms or side affects?

I've been on Paxil for about 8 years and don't think I need it anymore, but I've been afraid to quit taking due to some of the horror stories I've heard about withdrawal symptoms.

Joyce, glad to see you back and letting us know you are still kicking. Paxil is good for anxiety too that is why I was on it. I don't trust this drug at all. My primary care Dr. is the one who listened and took me off it. The psychiatrist that I have to see to get this never could grasp what I was telling him.

- no I haven't changed any meds but I am on a small dosage of Paxil and I don't even know why I was put on it. I have never been clinically depressed. When i see my psychiatrist I was going to ask him why I'm taking it and ask him if I can stop taking it.. Maybe the paxil has started to affect me? I see my psychiatrist every 3 months for 7 minutes....he just gives me meds. joyce

what I was told is that you have to wean off 20 every other day for a week then and work you way down to 10 and then do the same for the next amount. I couldn't do that I went from 2 days at 20 and 2 days at 10 and I stopped. But I was given Xanax to counter at the Paxil. Not exactly sure what that meant. good luck in coming off of it because there are alot of withdrawal symptoms. To: Breathe-Support Sent: Sat, January 16, 2010 5:23:28 PMSubject: Re: Paxil

Wow Dyane- why are you on Paxil? I mean why did they put you on an antidepressent to begin with? Do you have a psychiatric diagnosis? Wow! I should think you would be very tired from it. Joyce R AZ birds

That's what I'm thinking...I'm a paxil lifer! LOL I'm really frightened about the terrible withdrawal symptoms and while on it I feel fine and I've never experienced depression or severe anxiety....so might as well not mess with something that works and keeps me stable.

,I have been on Paxil since 1994 and Zoloft 2 years before that. I tried to switch once and almost had a nervous breakdown. Screwed up earlier this year went without for 10 days, again almost had a nervous breakdown. My doc says I will be on for life, I don't have a problem with it, but I sure do Without it...LOL
