In the beginning I really craved ginger ale, V8, tomato soup from Trader Joe's.

The first two weeks you can't have particles in your food, so you are more

limited. Ensure is good, if you water it down with milk. Albertson's has

drinkable yogurt which is good.

expect. I am terrified because he is

having upper and lower jaw work. 1.5 hrs left until surgery is over.

He will not have his mouth wired shut, but he will have his mouth

in " lock-down " for 5 days. Any advise on favorite liquid foods and

things that will make his experience abit more comfortable...

Also his surgery is 4 hours and he had a catharer (is that how its

spelled?) put in - is that typical. Can you give me any 1st day post

op tips that you wished you knew...

Good luck to your husband and yourself for going through this journey. I have

been an pt 4 times in a year, and felt like my husband was not supportive at

times. Just be as supportive as you can..remember he does not feel well, get

tired easy, and in pain numb, and may sometimes feel as he wished he had not

done this surgery...he may get depressed, so bear with him, support him, love

him...I have tried lots of food, I am wired this time, 1 more week to go 4 weeks

total so far...I have pureed lots of food, favorites are milkshakes, smoothies,

potato/leek soup, refried beans with sourcream...but if he is not wired it will

be easier for him than if he was wired..just be carefull and dont chew unless

the os says he can..

another FYI: my first 4 surgeries I used ice for weeks, I got hooked because it

made the nubness feel good...but this time I used heating pad after the first 48

hrs and alot of my numbness and swelling has gone away and Im only 4 weeks post

op...If someone didnt know me they would not think I still had swelling...keep

head up when sleeping, that helps with edema..please feel free to ask me any

other question and I will try and answer...Im also a nurse for 15 years.

Hello,

I had upper jaw surgery, major nose reconstruction, cheek bone and bone graft

surgery. My surgery lasted over 14 hours, I had a catheter put in too and i'm

glad I did because there was no way I could have got up to go to the bathroom. I

don't remember much about the first day post op as I was still drugged up from

the surgery,
