Guest guest
I had elevated liver enzymes at about 6-9 months post-op, enough so to concern my PCP, but not the WLS surgeon. I believe the reading was over 1000 (can't remember exactly). Anyways, the PCP said it could be from the rapid weight loss, and that we should monitor and re-test (blood test) in a month. We did and the levels had come down. I think this is not an unusual occurrence in WLS post-op, though I do not know if there are any long term health implications from this, or overall to our livers. I know the liver has to work overtime to process protein, at least animal proteins, so, is this a bad thing for the liver, to eat alot of animal protein as we have been told to do? I co know that many of us have elevated liver enzyme tests, but doctors don't seem to know what to do about it, or even if they should worry about it at all. In researching this, I did find out that the intestinal bypass and the jejunal ileal bypass both caused possible liver failure in the long term. So, what I am trying to find out is whether this is something a gastric bypass patient should watch out for also. > > Thanks for any input you can give me. > > Chrissie > shihtzumom@s... > http://users.snip.net/~shihtzumom > My WLS Journey: http://millennium.fortunecity.com/doddington/691/WLS/this_is_me.htm > > >
