Guest guest
Hi Hem! GFCF is a " Gluten Free Casein Free " diet. Gluten is a protein found in rye, wheat and barley. With SCD, you have already cut out the gluten by cutting out all starches. " GF " is more lenient, as you would be permitted to use grains like rice, corn, grits and quinoa (all of which are ILLEGAL on SCD). However, SCD is not Casein Free. Casein is the protein found in milk- we do consume casein on the SCD diet in the form of cheese and yogurt (and I am assuming it's in DCCC too). FYI, most parents in the pecanbread group choose to do the SCD diet without casein. So, in effect, they are doing both diets! You brought up a very interesting thought about yeast though. I really thing you should find out if she has a yeast problem. If so, doing a anti-candida diet will REALLY help her watery stools!!! Many people on this list supplement with S. Boulardii for starters (and there are many dietary changes you can make to starve the yeast). I know that for me, personally, it has helped with my diarrhea and bleeding. Kim M (one of our moderators) is our resident pro who can help you with questions. But, you should start by reading her info on the anti-candida diet that can be found in our files! -Joanna SCD 9/2009, Crohn's 1992, 20mg Prednisone > > Hi All, > > Can some tell me whats the difference between GFCF and SCD diet. Guest guest
Hem, My son and I are GFDF, and I am just starting to learn about SCD so I can't answer your question about the differences yet but thought I'd share that even goat yogurt gives my son loose stools and gas. I haven't tried the SCD yogurt yet but am hoping he tolerates it better. Yash > > Hi All, > > Can some tell me whats the difference between GFCF and SCD diet. Many folks who have been GFCF choose to do SCD dairy-free, particularly if they have been CF for awhile. However, after gut healing has taken place, many of them find they can use SCD goat yogurt (starting very low and very slow, because it can be potent stuff!) because the long fermentation process denatures the casein and makes it more digestible. In the mean time, you can use a dairy-free probiotic and/or nut-milk yogurt. — Marilyn New Orleans, Louisiana, USA Undiagnosed IBS since 1976, SCD since 2001 Darn Good SCD Cook No Human Children Shadow & Sunny Longhair Dachshund Babette the Foundling Beagle

SCD, because it eliminates all grains, is automatically gluten-free (GF). You can do SCD dairy free if you choose, which eliminates the casein (CF). SCD also eliminates gums and starches and non-monosaccharide sugars which are a major source of food for bad gut bacteria. SCD is what GFCF would like to be when it grows up. — Marilyn New Orleans, Louisiana, USA Undiagnosed IBS since 1976, SCD since 2001 Darn Good SCD Cook No Human Children Shadow & Sunny Longhair Dachshund Babette the Foundling Beagle
