Guest guest
Okay... last night True was waking up earlier than he should to eat. This is not terribly unusual, but we can usually lay him back down and he will 'rest' even if he doesn't sleep, although sometimes he sleeps. However, last night he fought with every muscle when I tried to lay him down. I tried a few things and after 15 minuted, got him up and decided to check his blood sugar to see. It was about 45 minutes before he should have eaten. Here's what happened with checking his blood sugars: 34@ 12:13am....so I was pretty alarmed so I dedided to take it again just to see. At the same time, I used Gaige's glucometer to check it with: 75, exactly...on both meters @ 12:14a Fed him 4oz and check it 20 minutes after. This time I used both meters and an accucheck we use to use: 96 with True's 100 with Gaige's 94 with the Accucheck SOOOO...can I assume that it really was 34 and then his glucose kicked in and went up to 75? Has anyone else seen THIS and has a doctor ever given you a reason for it? He was shaky...a little dim...but fussy. If I were going to do some heavy monitoring to try and figure this out, do you guys have suggestions on when I might be able to catch some things? I mean, I know the typical hypoG signs but I mean anytime with relation to how long it takes for food to digest and when you experience the most low? thanks a bunch! deb...mom to four fab adopted kiddos... Guest guest
First, many of us get hung up on minor differences. There really is little difference between 94 and 100. Glucometers are rarely that accurate. My glucometer is often inaccurate. Yesterday I had a blood sugar reading of 84 but was having all the symptoms of very low blood sugars. So I ate something to tide me over until dinner. My glucometer (One Touch Ultra) often says I'm 253 but my hubby checks me in the hospital lab and it's 190 (same blood sample). I'm tempted to go back to my old meter which was *very* accurate!! So yes, it's more than possible that the original reading of 34 was inaccurate. It's highly unlikely it would go up in that short a span. By the way, they use Accucheck glucometer at my husband's hospital and he is responsible for them (quality control, etc.) and he says they are the worst piece of testing equipment he's ever used. Highly inaccurate (they have eight meters). Dianne > Here's what happened with checking his blood sugars: > > 34@ 12:13am....so I was pretty alarmed > > so I dedided to take it again just to see.
