Guest guest
While the splint remains in my mouth for another week, I had my mouth unwired today. Needless to say it was a very painful experience. I guess I didn't realize exactly how difficult it would be trying to open my mouth. My surgery was 18 days ago and my surgeon/doctor felt it was time for me to try and get things moving. I'm really having a hard time opening my mouth, but it is the first day so it's expected. I'm hoping as the week progresses things get a little easier. If anyone can give me any information/advice/feedback I would GREATLY appreciate it. Thanks, Steve
Guest guest
Steve, let you jaws take their time, and be gentle with them, unless or until your docs tell you otherwise. I'm sorry it hurts to open, but I'll bet you'll get back to go pretty soon. It's not at all unusual for those who are so completely immobilized to have some trouble regaining the full opening. When the time comes, be as aggressive as your ortho and surgeon tell you about using the muscles. But until then, give them a break. They've been through a really traumatic experience! Ask your docs when/whether exercises may be appropriate. There's a window for healing, best I understand, followed by a window for stretching, and your docs will know best how to advise you on therapies.
