Guest guest
Hello : I had my lower jaw moved forward in December 2004. I had no feeling in part of my chin or lower lip for three months. Subsequently, I have experienced various levels of tingling, with a good deal of tingling activity over the past month. My surgeon also stated that I had absolutely no nerve damage and that it could take a year for all of my feeling to return. This is truly a test of patience! ashleymf1983 wrote: Hi everyone, My name is and I'm a 21 year old who just had surgery 2 weeks ago on July 23. I had my lower jaw moved forward. My surgeon said that I had absolutely no nerve damage, yet ever since the surgery my bottom lip and chin have been completely numb. He keeps saying that the feeling will retun, but I am becoming impatient and worried. Has anyone else experienced any numbness and returning of feeling? Guest guest
Hello and I am new to this group but I have a question for you I am considering lower jaw surgery to move it forward...I have a Class II Division 1 malocclusion with an overjet of 7.8 millimeters, overbite of 80% These are the measurements from my orthodontists.....I dont necessarily know what these measurements mean I am 36 male......can someone tell me what these figures mean in relation to those of you who have had surgery? thanks Re: Chin & Bottom lip numbness Hello : I had my lower jaw moved forward in December 2004. Guest guest
Hello , I read the response from and if it is any consultation, I have pretty much the same reply. My surgery was in February of this year and I had some doubts because I have heard stories where the numbness didn't subside in other patients from years ago. My surgeon also told me there was no nerve damage and where I am one year from the date of my surgery is where I will be. Not until a few days ago did I finally start feeling minor tingling on the side I was worried about, the left. Many blessings and I wish you the best in your recovery. Guest guest
Hello : I also had a Class II malocclusion.....I had my lower jaw moved forward........my upper jaw broadened and my gum line changed. My orthodontist mentioned the measurements at one time, I truly do not remember what the exact measurement was. However, from what I understand, the measurement represents how far off your occlusion (bite) is. Ask your orthodontist to explain it again......... jmmsurf@... wrote: Hello and I am new to this group but I have a question for you I am considering lower jaw surgery to move it forward...I have a Class II Division 1 malocclusion with an overjet of 7.8 millimeters, overbite of 80% These are the measurements from my orthodontists.....I dont necessarily know what these measurements mean I am 36 male......can someone tell me what these figures mean in relation to those of you who have had surgery? thanks Re: Chin & Bottom lip numbness Hello : I had my lower jaw moved forward in December 2004. Guest guest
What was your reason for having the surgery? I have no pain or no 'issues' with my mouth...other than the fact that I have an overbite....so mine is cosmetic with hopes to improve appearance (like profile) Everybody thinks I am crazy for having braces, surgery........ Did u see big changes in your face? or profile? Re: Chin & Bottom lip numbness Hello : I had my lower jaw moved forward in December 2004. Guest guest
, I had surgery on the 28th and have the sane problem. My chin is completely numb and my bottom lip is too. My top lip has feeling though. I was told the same thing- that I had no nerve damage. I think it is normal. Guest guest
Hello : 1. TMJ 2. Periodontal disease which can result from malocclusion, and in my case, did result from the malocclusion. I had three surgeries for periodontal disease 3. Upper teeth will eventually fall out because they have no support 4. Headaches 5. Other health issues The bottom line is that the malocclusion can, and does, lead to serious health issues. This is a very unhealthy state. I would check with your doctor regarding the health issues you may have and are not yet aware of. The insurance companies want you to believe this is a cosmetic surgery. It is not. The require procedures are medical. jmmsurf@... wrote: What was your reason for having the surgery?
