Guest guest
I've been gathering info about cholesterol and statins, and would be happy to share once I've got it all put together. Some of the basics are: - Not all LDL is bad. You have to find out if your LDL if fluffy (good) or hard (bad) - Cholesterol goes up when there is inflammation in the body, and since you've only been SCD for 2 months, you're probably still suffering from inflammation. - Statins do nada for women, in fact, they're more likely to harm women then help I have much more, but this is a little that I remember off the top of my head. Also, I've been taking Pantethine for 2 months, which is supposed to be really good for lowering LDL. I'll find out Wednesday whether it has worked for me. Holly Crohn's SCD 12/01/08 > > I just got the results from my chol test from Friday. I was disappointed. I have been on SCD for 2 months. Just thought I would see what the veterans here have to say. These are my numbers from the last 3 tests (4/09, 4/10, 9/10). So you can see my trends... > Total chol - 251, 264, 278 > Triglicerides - 134, 125, 117 > HDL - 60, 69, 64 > LDL - 164, 170, 191 > Chol/HDL ratio - 4.2, 3.8, 3.0 > So my LDL and total chol continue to rise and my Tri, LDL, and ratio continue to get better. I always get the " you're heading for a heart attack " talk. What is the real story here? (I guess you can see, I don't always trust the doctors who are ready to put you on a drug) > I hear you all talking about how the SCD helped lower your cholesteral, I guess I was expecting something better. > from Colorado > SCD since 7/14 > IBS >
Guest guest
I just wanted to add that doing SCD for 2 months isn't going to instantly reverse damage done to your body! I would give the diet more time. Also, a lot of people seem to see a rise in cholesterol at the beginning of the diet. But don't get discouraged- the main principles of SCD (cutting out sugars and grains) will probably help you immensely down the road. -Joanna > > I hear you all talking about how the SCD helped lower your cholesteral, I guess I was expecting something better. > > from Colorado > > SCD since 7/14 > > IBS > > >
Guest guest
Thanks, Holly. I am looking forward to reading it (and taking it to my health professionals). My nutritionist is less willing to go the drug route and has suggested Policosanol and Red Yeast Rice. Also " green drinks " to get more concentrated raw veggies. from Colorado IBS SCD 2 months > > I've been gathering info about cholesterol and statins, and would be happy to share once I've got it all put together. Well, one thing that is helpful is to have the lab normal rates for the tests. Every lab has slightly different values. FOr instance, one lab had my blood sugar at " x " level as being normal. Another, because of something different in the way they did they tests, had the same value as abnormal. — Marilyn New Orleans, Louisiana, USA Undiagnosed IBS since 1976, SCD since 2001 Darn Good SCD Cook No Human Children Shadow & Sunny Longhair Dachshund Babette the Foundling Beagle
