Guest guest
Hi , Regarding feeds in school, Bran is on continuous feeds, so his pump is in his backpack, on his back, during school. We don't do bolus feeds (due to hypo-g problems) so I can't help you there. I do have to say that the kids in his class don't seem to really " notice " Bran's tube much at all. We have occasionally experienced problems with slight bleeding, and crusty stuff around his button. More in the beginning than now. The most important thing is to keep the area clean and dry. In the beginning we used a 50/50 mixture of sterile water and hydrogen peroxide followed by Bactroban ointment to protect the skin from leakage. Now we just use soap and water. We also cover the stoma with a split 2x2, but that didn't start until after his button was placed. This irritation can be caused by the movement of the tube, so I would suggest that you find a way to secure the tube, to keep movement to a minimum. Bran's tubing is run through his diaper tabs, and taped down in front. BUT we haven't yet devised a system for when he's potty trained. I think we'll end up using pull-ups for quite a while! LOL Hope this helps! Pat (g-ma to , RSS, 3 yrs 11 months old, 25#, 34.6 " , G-tube, GHT)
