Guest guest
Tonya, Do not put heat on your face without your doctor's consent. You're free to use ice packs, but need to have permission to start a heating regimen. From what I was told, it is the ice that helps drastically reduce bruising. I had a quarter size bruise on one jaw and that was it as I was a firm believer in ice packs for the first week to 10 days. Connie > Does it really help to put heat on your face for swelling? Guest guest
I'm with Connie on that, talk to your surgeon. As for ice, I was told by the resident surgeon that it only helps at the time of the original injury (ie - the surgery) and that it wouldn't be helpful later on. But I used my ice packs anyway because it made my face feel more comfortable. Other docs say different things - Cammie's doc said heat was ok, I think. I asked my massage therapist about it, and she said, no, you don't want heat since it will draw fluids to the site and cause more swelling. She was the one who directed me to an MLD therapist for the swelling, and also to a homeopath who gave me, among other remedies, arnica for bruising and swelling. Talk to your health care professionals or alternative therapists before you try anything yourself!! > > Does it really help to put heat on your face for swelling? Like a > > heating pad?
