Guest guest
Hi Felshie, I've had multiple TMJ surgeries (and orthognathic surgeries to correct an open and overbite) but I'm not familiar with the procedure you're having. My discs were too badly damaged from being dislocated for years. My surgeon grafted part of my temporalis muscle (from the scalp) into the joints to replace the cartilage. I also had bilateral joint replacements in June. I felt better after the surgeries and have less pain but I'll never be able to chew normally and I'll always have some pain. Once you've had joint surgery, the joints are never quite the same. I can now chew soft foods which is a huge accomplishment for me. I can control the pain with Celebrex, Tylenol and Ultracet which is also a lot better than pre-op. Good luck with your surgery. I hope you get good results. > > Hi- I'm having bilateral Arthroplasties with pins to keep the disc in > place and was just wondering if anybody has had this procedure and > what their results were? Guest guest
Hi , thank you so much for responding. I haven't really talked to anybody who has had open joint surgery. My oral surgeon says that they will remove the disc completely if it is too damaged...which, of course, concerns me because I worry that that will eventually lead me down the road to joint replacement. Is joint surgery something you would recommend? Did it help you at all in the long run? I too will have to have an orthognathic surgery to correct my open bite. Did they do that to you before doing joint replacements and if so, did that pose a problem? Thanks, Felshie --- minirascal2002 <no_reply > wrote: > Hi Felshie, > I've had multiple TMJ surgeries (and orthognathic > surgeries to correct > an open and overbite) but I'm not familiar with the > procedure you're > having.
