Guest guest
Hi, I had the problem that since my OS was an " Out of Network " provider, I had to pay his fees up front which came to a total of $11,750. This fee also included the assistant OS charges of $1,750.00. Luckily my OS accepted Care Credit which basically is a medical credit card that doesn't charge interest like most credit cards do. I applied for Care credit and was luckily accepted for the $11,750. I am still waiting for my insurance to pick up some of their portion of these fees, but until then I have to pay Care Credit $339.00 a month. Care Credit offers a few other payment plans, but some of the lower payment plans carry an interest charge like a regular credit card. The total cost of my hospital fees billed to the insurance came to a total of $31,000.00. Luckily my hospital accepted my insurance. Best of luck to you, --Caboose - > > > > So if your insurance company doesn't cover any portion of the > surgery > > what are your options, short of paying upfront in cash?? > > > I have the same question...How do you pay and what is the average cost > of lower jaw surgery? >

Guest guest
Hi Beadjobs, Many OMS do require the fees up front, but there was someone here recently who posted that their OMS took payments. Checking around your area to see if there is a good OMS who will do this might be helpful. Since most of our surgeries have a long lead time, you might even have a lot of it paid before surgery. An OMS who has their own accredited surgical suite might be less costly too. Hospital charges can really add up quickly, and a hospital is much more expensive than a private surgical suite. Make sure you are near a hospital though, and that your OMS has privilages there. Some people have put a second mortgage on their home, taken a personal loan out, and some have put it on cards and rotated the cards to the " 0 " interest balance transfers offered for transferring your balances. With interest rates rising, I don't know if I would feel comfortable with that option, but it is out there. I don't know if you have a medical trainging hospital near you, but sometimes they have programs for other specialties where OMS in training learn their craft. It would be really important in that case, to investigate thouroughly that an experienced and certified OMS was supervising the care and especially the surgery itself. And how far along the OMS in training was would be a factor too. Depending on the situation, that might be an option, but some teaching hospitals do not really offer much of a discount for their training programs, and then you may still be dealing with hospital fees for the OR. You would need to investigate this really carefully. I know that Mt Saini in NY has a plastic surgery program that is carefully supervised by some of the top plastic surgeons in NY, and their fees are incredibly low, and include the hospital OR charges too. I don't know of any OMS training hospital programs, but it might be an option. Just a thought. Good luck with this! Please share what you find out. It might be helpful to someone else down the line.
