Tonya,

I had the tubes in my nose when I had my surgery July 8, but they were

put in after and removed before I woke up from anesthesia. I don't

know why your surgeon wants to keep yours in so long? I think that

could be scary, but maybe others who've experienced it will have more

input.

The only aftereffect I felt was a sore throat for a couple days.

Drinking lots of liquids helped, and so did the pain meds.

Hi Tonya,

My OS left my NG tube in overnight so I wouldn't have any nausea/vomiting from

blood in

my stomach. It was fine, it didn't bother me much at all (although I did throw

up blood

three times right after surgery, twice in recovery, and once right after they

brought me to

my room). My OS said I wouldn't be able to talk with it in, but they talked to

me in

recovery and I croaked back to them. It wasn't comfortable, but it wasn't

horrible either.

If I wasn't talking, I was totally fine.

When he removed it early the next morning it wasn't that bad at all. Having my

catheter

removed was slightly worse, and neither one of them was anything I have

nightmares

about. It will be fine!

Tonya,

I had the surgical hooks put on 6 weeks before surgery too. I also had both

tubes in my nose when I woke, mine were taken out a few days after the surgery.

But i didn't know they were there.

Just joined the group. I has a major lower and upper surgery. They

doctors moved out my lower jaw and expanded the top. The crazy thing

about it was that my bone was so strong that the surgery lasted for 16

hours! The saws kept breaking.

Hello there and welcome to the group! Sorry to hear that your surgery

took so long; how are you feeling? How long ago was your surgery?

Sounds like you had a BSSO for mandibular advancement and a LeFort

Maxillary Osteotomy - 2-piece? I wonder if your surgery holds the new

world record for the longest Orthognathic surgical procedures with the

most surgical tool breakage?! (Either that or the saws were old and

ready to be replaced, and your bones did 'em in!) Anyway, you have to

be relieved that it is all over with! Take care as you continue your

recovery process. Warm healing vibes are being sent your way! ~~ Diane--

I had the surgery friday. Went into the opperating room at 7 am and

didn't come out till 12 that night. I'm doing ok now. The only real

problem is that I'm hungry but when I eat the medicine really doesn't

make my stomach feel too well. Any recommendatiions for the stomach

and eating?

Thanks,

Brad

-Brad - You mentioned you are on medicine - is it antibiotics,or pain

meds? Sometimes it is best to take medication on a full stomach, but

some meds specify being taken before eating or on an empty stomach.

Are you taking Vicodin(spelling?) Sometimes that will upset your

stomach. Let your surgeon know you are having problems with eating

while on your meds: maybe he can switch meds. Are you wired shut or

splinted and banded shut? Did your surgeon tell you to eat only

blenderized foods for the first four to six weeks? I haven't had my

surgery yet, as I'm just now getting my braces put on. I have an

underbite and will be having a BSSO (mandibular set-back) as well as

a LeFort (maxillary advancement) next summer. ~~ Diane-- In
