Guest guest
Hi All Guess I am looking for advice and encouragement. I have been on SCD 2 months and 1 week. My basic foods are eggs, chicken, fish, almond butter, olive oil, zucchini, carrot, apple and banana. My problem is that I don't seem to be able to add any new foods without a recurrence of symptoms ie gas, diarrhoea, bloating, nausea, rash, depression. I have tried to add small leaf spinach, SCD almond nut yoghurt, butternut squash, green beans, avocado, coconut oil, red meat, SCD acidophilus 1/4 capsule - all with 3 to 4 days between introduction - and they all bring on the above symptoms. My questions are - Do you think the 9 foods I am eating, which do agree with me, are nutritionally adequate? - Do you have any advice as to how I could expand my foods apart from what I am currently doing? - Do you think I am progressing ok ie I need some encouragement, as I am at a low point at present and quite frustrated with my perceived lack of progress. With thanks in advance for your help AM IBS 13/3/09 SCD 22/6/10 no meds IBS pre-SCD Severe Depression
Guest guest
Hi, How are you preparing your fruits and veggies? I did not do well with spinach alone in the beginning, but when I pureed it,mixed it with beaten eggs and baked it into a soufle, I tolerated it. I peeled, and cooked all fruits and veggies for a long time and found I tolerated them pureed first. You can try home made pecan butter and can bake items using nut butters instead of nut flour. Red meats can be higher in fats- if this is the problem- have you tried turkey and fish? It is important to be sure any poultry does not contain added flavorings and broths. I sometimes had difficulty with coconut oil, green beans, and avocado. I think the beans had too much roughage and the others- too high in fat. Butternut squash went right through me. I did well with baked acorn squash, cooked pineapple, cooked apples and pears, pecan butter, and baked salmon. It's trial and error. Progress is individual. It's best to hang in there and proceed slowly. PJ > > Hi All > > Guess I am looking for advice and encouragement. Guest guest
> > My questions are - Do you think the 9 foods I am eating, which do agree with me, are nutritionally adequate? I progressed slowly on the diet too. At 9 weeks, I wasn't even eating 9 foods. Your body will let you know if it isn't nutritionally adequate. >Do you have any advice as to how I could expand my foods apart from what I am currently doing? The only thing you can do is move slowly. If something doesn't agree with you now, move on to something else. Try again in a 3 or 4 weeks. What bothers you today, might not bother you tomorrow. >Do you think I am progressing ok ie I need some encouragement, as I am at a low point at present and quite frustrated with my perceived lack of progress. Yes, you are progressing fine. Each person progresses different. After over 2 1/2 years on the diet, I can eat a pretty good variety of foods but some things still bother me. Just take it slow, eat what you can and let your guts heal. At the one year mark I was probably only eating 9 different things.
