Guest guest
Hi , I give my son his shot every night after he falls a sleep. Sometimes he jumps, more so when the GH is too cold. We do not use any Emela cream or anything to numb the site. I just swab it with alcohol, let it dry then give him his shot. Most nights he doesn't even move. I usually wait until he has been asleep for a couple of hours so that he is sound asleep. I hope this helps. Ken M > > Hello to all, > I have not been on a while and today had over 300 e-mails, sorry if I have not been in touch. Our insurance company approved the GH for Jonah and a nurse came on Sunday to show us how to do it. We gave him his first one that day and he was not happy... My husband and I both tried it and felt virtually nothing, of course we did not have the GH in the syringe. Well, Sunday night Jonah and I both got sick, a cold and thank God so far, Jonah has been feeling ok, just trying to keep the ketones away... > Well anyway, not a great time to get started. At first I was paranoid about the GH since Jonah had a headache on Sunday night. Dr. H. says the dose is so little, he should not get side affects. We were not going to do it when he was sleeping, but last night Jonah fell asleep before my husband came home to help me...So we did it after he was asleep and he moved, but did not wake up. Tonight he was so against doing it that we asked if he wanted to do it when he was sleeping and he said yes. This made me nervous about his anxiety about going to sleep, but we put the Emla cream on, read and he went to sleep so we gave it to him and once again touched his leg, but did not wake. > I was wondering if he might feel the cold since the GH is in the fridge. Does anyone know about that?? I don't know what is right or wrong, but I hate to give him more anxiety about something he has to do every night. Just being on top of him all the time about ketones is tremendous in addition to his other medications. > , I am glad to hear that it has gotten easier for you guys. I guess we will see how this works out. > Sorry this is so long...Some days it just feels so hard... > My best to everyone > , Jonah's mom > > >
Guest guest
, If you think that the gh is too cold and that is what Jonah is responding to, fix the syringe and then leave it out for a half hour or so. It is perfectly safe to do this. The chill will be taken out of the med. Eventually, though, Jonah will not react at all to the shot, either in his sleep or while awake. I do understand your anxiety, though. It gets easier for all. I promise. Jodi Z
Guest guest
I wanted to send a big thank you to everyone who gave us advice about the GH. We have been taking the syringe out of the fridge a bit before and that seems to help. Jonah says he wants the medicine when he is sleeping because he does not feel anything. He goes to sleep, moves a little when we give him the shot and then the next day asks if we gave it to him. He then says that he did not feel anything. We are not even using the cream before. I was hesitant to do this, but it seems to be working, at Well, again thanks Jodi, Jodie, Judith, Pat, Ken and . I will stay posted.
