What would you tell another person to do? We sure are dumb when it comes to taking care of ourselves. Anyone out there see any " musts " on that list. There is only one " must " and that is taking care of Sue's health. This bleeding is not normal and you know it. Instead of asking the PA, ask the surgeon, he will tell you that bleeding is never normal, but what do you expect when you never gave your body a chance to heal from major surgery. Do I sound really pissed at the way you are treating your body? I hope so. Guest guest
Sue, I haven't had a hystie, but if this isn't to be expected, then call, scream, cry, demand, threaten lawsuit, whatever it takes to get that doctor on the phone. Let that front desk girl know that if she doesn't comply with your request, and something serious happens to you, she will be held liable, along with the doctor...that's how dead serious you are about this. I hate to hear crap like this (can you tell?)! Feel better honey! in NJ *************************** > > > I'm bleeding again. It's continued on today, worse than it was before...to the point now where I've had to actually go buy pads instead of panty liners. I'm crampy and not happy. Once again I asked our PA if this was to be expected. He said no, to call my doctor. So I did and the front office said that the doctor wasn't in and she couldn't squeeze me in till the 30th. I said, ok....so I'll just bleed till then I guess. Do you think maybe you could tell the nurse and see what she thinks? Desk girl says, oh..ok, I could do that. And that's all I've heard. > > > > Sue > > >
Guest guest
Let me pile on to the very good advice you have gotten so far from everyone, but in a more graphic way: You gotta start busting some balls, Sue! Get on the phone and say " I want to hear from the doctor ASAP, I am bleeding " do not equivocate. Let them get pissed, what do you care! I am not saying be nasty, I am saying be insistent. Take care of yourself, NOW. Lucille In a message dated 12/19/2003 6:58:48 AM Eastern Standard Time, Graduate-OSSG writes: > Anyhow...I'm frustrated about this. Guest guest
Ok, Sue, deep breath! Now as a 14 year hystie post op, let me tell you unequivocally that 4 weeks is NOT long enought to recuperate! nope, nope nope! Do you realize the hormonal cyclone you are going thru? You did have the ovaries yanked yes? Second, no bleeding is NOT a good thing. especially after you already had a silver nitrate treatment. Did your doc not tell you to go home after that treatment, put your feet up and REST?? You call the office again NOW! Demand to talk to the nurse NOW! if you do not get in immediately, take yourself to the ER where they will call your surgeon NOW! There is no reason for you to be jerked around by office staff. The 30th my behind! You tell them NOW! or you will park yourself in their face and complain loudly and at length about the irresponsiblity of the office staff. They work for you, they are not superior to you. Now is this not what you would tell anyone else on this list with the same problem? Like I said I had my complete hystie 14 years ago at 34. It kicked butt for the full 6 weeks and I was barely walking up straight at 4 weeks. To say nothing of stamina. In comparison physically RNY was a walk in the park. I don't know why that is, but it is. Please take care of this immediately! Phyllis (who only wants you healthy and happy!) for the girls (OT) Warning to guys....girls stuff here!!! So here's the thing...I had a full hysterectomy 4 weeks ago. Been doing..ok...and too much..back to work cause I don't get paid for staying home. Had a problem this week...been bleeding for several days. As you may know I work for my surgeon. So I asked our PA if this bleeding was normal. He said if it went on for a 3rd day to all my gyn. It did and I did...on the 4th day. So I went and got treated with silver nitrate. Can you say OW! Three touch spots that wanted to bleed. The gyn told me to expect some nasty discharge from this and I was ok with that. This was yesterday morning I had the procedure. Went back to work, then had to work seminar at night and didn't get home till nearly midnight. Tummy hurting bad at that point and yippee...I'm bleeding again. So kids....what's a girl to do? I know the doctor is in surgery tomorrow. I can try and get the nurse and speak with her...I don't think I need to go to the ER, but I do think I may need more silver nitrate OW! Anyhow...I'm frustrated about this. I really expected to bounce back from my hystie. Just didn't think it would kick my butt this badly. I think my tummy is more swollen than it was with my lbl. By the afternoon I look 3 months pregnant. And the tiredness.....OMG!! I could just sleep for 2 hours, putz around the house, take another nap, do a little project, repeat as needed. But instead I must work, shop, do Christmas stuff, bake, clean and whatever else comes down the pike. Ok...whining done I think...... Thanks for listening.. Guest guest
Sue, After my hysterectomy, I never bled. I would insist they take care of you now. You should not be bleeding or waiting until the 30th. This is not from a period. You are losing what you need. Our iron counts can go down fast in my opinion. After my stitches were removed from my abdominplasty, two places opened up. I don't want problems with wound healing like with the breast lift. Plus I'm having fluid build up inside for the third time. I called for two days until I got them to see me before Christmas. I told them that I didn't want to be stranded with problems over Christmas and no where to turn. They fully understood and made me an appointment on the 23rd. If nothing else helps, just show up. Let them see how run down you are and that you need their help. I'm sure they cannot turn you away. Hope it gets better for you soon! And please slow down! You cannot heal properly by over doing it. I know because these things don't get done themselves but you have to slow down. I think I've overdone it too so I guess I can't preach. I will tell you though, with my hysterectomy, I would get a sharp pain for months if I did anything very strenuous. This type of surgery needs TIME. Take care of yourself, Dawn
Guest guest
Sue, Either go to the emergency room or have the the gyn paged. This is not normal and shouldn't wait until the 30th. Guest guest
By the same token, I was 31 (back 20+ yrs ago) and was trying to be pretty perky at 3 weeks. Some passing discomfort, and of course, the visual side effects, but NOTHING like you are describing. Nothing. I felt better even immediately post-op than I had pre-op! And I had mine in the dark ages, in a cave, by lantern light, in comparison. Hey, Sunrise has free valet parking, so you can simply wait there for the doc and he can get up at 3am to see you vs the easy 3pm visit you SHOULDA had. You know what you have to do. Guest guest
Thanks to everyone for your kind and caring emails...on and off list ) I did hear from the nurse at my doctors office this morning at work (yes...I did go to work, cuz staying home don't pay the bills, yunno?) She (the nurse) told me I wasn't being stupid for calling (because I really, really hate asking for help...after all, since WLS..aren't we all invincible? Why can't I heal from an appendectomy and a hysterectomy in three weeks? I protein loaded!) Anyhow, she contacted my doctor who explained that the silver nitrate cauterizes the places that are bleeding and sort of makes scabs. Well when a person moves, as we all most sooner or later, the scabs or whatever come off, causing bleeding, just like it would on your knee or elbow. She said it's normal but if I should saturate a pad that I should be my butt to the ER (yes Sunrise Ms Tattletale....) darn quick. My doctor will call me Monday morning to see how I am and if I am still bleeding she will give me another treatment of silver nitrate. Meantime....well ok, I'll try really, really hard not to do any heavy lifting or over-do it this weekend. Because I do realize that last I checked I only have one body, and if I want it to last me for the next 30 or 40 years I better take care of it. Love you all!
