Guest guest
Well, it is now a month post-surgery for me and today I went to the OS to get unwired and to have my bands put on (a 2 week long thing). Before going, I was excited to get unwired. I did not know what was in store for me however. He told me to open my mouth a little to get the splint out. It got caught on my left side and I had to open wider even though I was beginning to shriek out in pain. He finally got the splint out and by then I was in tears due to the pain on my left side. Going into this I knew that I would not be able to open my mouth very wide, but I did not know it was going to be this painful. As soon as I got home I just collapsed in my bed and cried and cried. It was beginning to affect my ear, giving me an earache. I took 800mg of liquid Advil an hour ago and I have been using a heating pad, yet my ear is still killing me. I have never felt pain like this in my life. Any tips on what I can do? Also, when he took the splint out my tongue immediately felt a thick layer of crust behind my top & bottom front teeth. I cannot take my bands off..but what can I do to get rid of this nasty buildup? And lastly, I just looked in the mirror and noticed that the upper and bolower teeth on both sides of my mouth do not touch. Is this normal? Thank you, Ash (Lower jaw advancement July 23. 4 weeks of wired shut, 2 weeks banded. Plates and screws implanted into jaw)
