popping when stretching jaw muscles

Hi,

I was about to saying that I am about 3 months post op from my lower

jaw surgery (only 5mm advancement) but I realized that today I am

EXACTLY 3 months post op...anyway I am still only able to open about 3

fingers wide because I have lots of scar tissue on the right side of

my mouth (he had to put an extra screw on that side, etc.) so anyway I

was instructed to pry my jaws open to stretch it out so I can break up

some of that scar tissue and get back to my normal opening range. I

have been doing that for about 2 weeks or so and it has helped but I

reach a point where if I try to open my jaws any wider it pops. It

doesn't hurt or anything but I obviously don't try to stretch passed

the popping point so I'm kind of stuck. Anyway I was wondering if

this has happened to anyone else and if it just goes away or is some

problem that developed after the surgery (and no my jaw has never

popped before). And yes yes I know that I should call my surgeon and

ask him and I will - I was just wondering if anyone else had a similar

experience. Thanks for your input guys.

Hi Val,

I'm five months post op, at four months post op my jaw started popping and

clicking I mentioned this to my surgeon and he wasn't too concerned about it at

the time. I can't even fit two fingers in my mouth let alone three!!! My surgeon

has me doing jaw exercises as I could only open 20 mm at 3 months post op but

now I can only open 17 mm. I am going to call my surgeon too!
