Hi Joanne:) I am 10 days post op from having upper and lower jaw

surgery. It is really hard for me to say if I could bite in to a apple

again. If I ever try again I think for me I am going to at least give

it a year.

Hey Joanne,

At this moment in time I have yet to bite into an apple but I think

it's still early in the game for me as I'm 3 months and 3 weeks post-

op. Think I'll wait until 6 months before I try that apple:-) But I

have been biting into sandwhiches using my front teeth and that is a

first for me since pre-op I was always cutting my sandwhiches into

small pieces or tearing them apart with my back teeth. I'm also eating

bread sticks too which I never thought I would be able to handle this

soon after surgery. Carrot sticks and steak are still challenges to be

overcome but I am confident that I will get there. It's funny, pre-op I

was really concerned about what I could and could not eat but now that

I'm pre-op I'm just so happy that my bite looks better that I am

willing to wait even a year before I can bite into that apple. Some

foods I'm still too scared to eat and my OMS told me that's fine and

normal and that I shouldn't rush myself into anything I don't feel

ready for. It will happen eventually and I'm certainly not starving

myself even though I've managed to keep all the weight I lost

immediately post-surgery off.

That's so funny that you mention this. I'm 8 weeks post-op on my upper

jaw surgery and just the other day I was telling a friend that I'll

never be able to bite into a large burger again in my life! Not like I

am a big burger eater but when you see those camercials and you know

you can't have one you start wanting what you can't have. An apple is

definitely off the list for about a year or so. I'm having a hard time

even chewing on a very ripe small pieces of peach. Bananas I can do

though.

You know, when the OS said to " take it slow " I guess I didn't realize

the extent to which I would be taking it " slooooow. " I really am just

happy that I can eat solids again but I'm getting tired of finding

what kind of soups I can eat. At least they're towards the healthier

end.

Thanks for sharing Joanne!
