Guest guest
So glad to hear from you. It's been forever since we talked. My email is messed up so I haven't got any email for a couple of weeks and we can't seem to get it to work. I get to have my splint finally taken out on Friday, thank goodness. A week and a half ago the OS removed my splint, cut the section off that covered my back right molars, and then reattached it. This is because he knew my molars didn't meet up. The ortho installed bands to pull my molars down to the position they should be in. When the OS took off my splint neither side of my molars touched, although the right side was much more extreme. So, the ortho is giving the right side a little time to move before he removes the splint, and then hopefully it will be even with the left side and he'll move them all down together. Here's hoping! So, it sounds like you are having the same issues. I have a question for you. Since your molars aren't touching, are you still able to chew okay? I am excited that my splint will be off in time for my cruise (I leave on Sunday the 2nd), but am concerned that I won't even be able to chew. Let me know. It's exciting you're starting to get your feeling back. My OS said that I would start getting diminished sensation back (not to be confused with diminished capacity as I for some reason keep calling it) without even realizing it. I have had the worst time with the right side of my face, infections, refracturing it, etc., yet my feeling is coming back much more quickly on that side than on the left. Strange, but I'm not complaining. My bottom lip is getting a small amount of sensation, and hopefully one day I won't mind practicing kissing (remember your suggestion to just practice numb lips and all?). Hope all else is going well with you. When do you go in to your ortho or OS again so that you can ask about your molars? Connie
Guest guest
Hi Connie! Well, at least it's half off? I can't imagine still having my splint on! You are a saint! I can eat and chew. I would say that it's slightly annoying if I think too much about it, but at the same time I think I can chew better than I could before surgery. I go back to the ortho october 14th. It seems so far away... My feeling is coming back a little more and more. It's getting there, I can sort of feel it when I floss now, which is nice! I'm getting this very odd feeling when I eat, probably started Friday. My teeth on my upper jaw make this weird cracking sound when I swallow, maybe once, twice, three times during a meal. It doesn't hurt, but it does feel weird. It's kinda like how you may have a tooth or two that 'crack' for a day or two when they are moving, but it's more large scale than that. It's weird and is starting to make me concerned. I called my ortho's office today and the assistant who talked to me had no idea what I was talking about. She thought I was talking about my jaw joint, etc. Didn't understand it was my TEETH, thus why I was calling my ortho... I'm going to give it a few days and call and talk to my actual ortho if it is still bothering me. I'm not in pain, my bite is the same (though the rubberbands are seeming to pull my bite together more), it's just kinda creeping me out. Anyway, didn't mean to write a novel.
