Updates on Older Baby with Helmet and question

Hi everyone,

I have another happy update for my son's plagio treatments, we just did another

scan (Starscan) and his measurements are now 6.9. For those that have not heard

my story, 's plagio was originally measured at 14.8 mm at 19 months, and

we have been in the helmet for 2 months now. was 7 wks premature and

after a massive battle with idiot specialists we finally got our prescription

and helmet made for him by 20 months of age.

The orthotist cant believe the results we have been getting and quite frankly I

am having a hard time wrapping my head around it. We have been doing PT for

torticollis, CST, and the helmet for as long as he will tolerate it now that he

knows how to take it off. These results are not typical and there is always the

chance the scan is off, but the orthotist we have is very confident that all the

scans we have had are " really good " . Even if they are off a little bit, any

decrease from our original measurements is a plus in my book.

My question now is, how long do people generally keep their kids in helmets? I

was originally thinking my poor son would be in his starband until he was three

because we would probably not get any results at all but now that we are seeing

some changes I am thinking about stopping it at 26 months (adj age would be 24

months).

The fact that he can easily pull off the strap and take his helmet off whenever

he wants is making it hard for me to force it on him. I am pretty much happy if

he wears it when he is sleeping, in the car seat, and as much as he can during

the day. I suppose we are probably getting him a total of about 20 hours a day

instead of the 23.

Any ideas or suggestions? I am going to post this on the older plag group as

well.

Thanks!

Estrella
