Guest guest
I noticed my baby has a flat spot on the right side and the back of his head when he was 2.5 month. There is noticeable facial asymmetry. We have reposioned him and keek him off his back as much as we can for 2 weeks, but there is no improvement. His Pred said it willround it out itself and there is nothing to worry about. He even did not make any mesurement or give us referal. because we are in canada, we cannot see any specialist without referal. There is also no private headband provider in our proince, we do not even have the measurements. My question is: 1. will facial asymmetry go away by repositioning? 2. will facial asymmetry be fixed by headband? which brand? 3. Does the the evaluation for flat head or headband always involves a CT scan? Thank you.
Guest guest
It might get better by repositioning as long as you are diligent about it and give baby lots of supervised tummy time. All active bands basically do the same thing. Symmetry is helped by wearing a band. As long as you do it early enough. No, I did not do any kind of xray. They did scan her head for the helmet to be shaped though. how they did it for me with Hanger was I held her in my lap and they put a sock over her heair and just took this device and scanned all around her head. Very painless but mine did wriggle a lot.How far away from the states are you? I'm sorry I don't know anything about cranial centers in Canada. I know here some do not require a prescription to get the first scan done. From: jerikookoo <jeri_koo@...>Plagiocephaly Sent: Sun, March 20, 2011 6:18:16 AMSubject: need help! Guest guest
If you want an opinion you can post a photo of his head here (group's photos section). The top view often shows the problem the best. At this age you can sometimes get full correction with repositioning, but it will be much harder if he has torticollis. With tort the neck muscles are tight on one side so the baby has a strong preference for one side and/or a limited range of motion. If this is the case you will need physical therapy to help correct the tort. Tort is a big contributor to plagio. If the head shape corrects the face usually does to - at least to a certain extent. With repositioning you should take photos every week or two. You may not see a lot of change in 2 weeks, but by 4 or 6 I would think you can see change. Otherwise you'll know it isn't working. Also the photos would be good to share with your ped to convince them the repo isn't helping - that might get you a referral to a specialist. As for a CT scan, it is only needed if the doctor feel the bones might be fused prematurely. If this is the case it needs to be ruled out before treating for plagio. My daughter never had a CT scan. -christine sydney, 5 yrs, starband grad > > I noticed my baby has a flat spot on the right side and the back of his head when he was 2.5 month. Could you explain that to me. I don't understand the technical stuff. Â Is 700 MHz something new and more harmful? What is bandwidth? Â Loni From: Marc <marc@...> Subject: Re: Need Help! Date: Sunday, September 11, 2011, 11:23 AM Â Loni, sorry to hear that things are getting worse in your area. The Bionic phone is a " 4G LTE " phone. 4G LTE is a newer, faster kind of 4G, and may be what's causing you problems. So it may not be an increase in cell tower POWER, but 4G LTE is a difference frequency (700 Mhz) and has faster bandwidth. They had this BIONIC PHONE they released on Thursday.
Guest guest
> Is 700 MHz something new and more harmful? What is bandwidth? Older Verizon cellphones operated at 800 Mhz or 1900 Mhz. A current 4G technology, 4G WiMax, operates at 2500 Mhz. 4G LTE operates at 700 Mhz. Note that the lower the frequency, the better these frequencies will penetrate walls. As for bandwidth, this is the speed at which the data can be transmitted. The faster the speed, the quicker it is to load a webpage, download a file, etc. Generally I have found that higher speeds bring on more ES symptoms. And I observe this with my hard-wired DSL connection, not wireless. Real-world speed tests show 4G LTE as around 3 times faster than 4G WiMax. So this new 4G LTE penetrates walls better and transmits data more quickly. So it wouldn't surprise me that this would be harder for ES folks to tolerate.
