Guest guest
I really can't answer your question, but I do have a comment. I was gluten free off and on before going SCD. What I realized after going to SCD is how much STARCH is all the pre-packaged gluten free foods! I go back now and read labels on gluten free stuff for fun now and am amazed. SCD is just a healthier diet in general... This helped clear up most of his diahrrea. However, he has not been able to gain much weight, has dark circles under his eyes, and still has occasional problems with stomach pains and diarrhea.I would like to start him on the SCD- yikes! He already thinks the GF diet is bad! For those of you with CD- have any of you been able to eventually go off of the SCD? How long until symptoms seem to disappear? Any other thoughts?Thank you so much,

Guest guest
I have been on SCD 2.5 years. I was gluten-free first and still had problems. SCD immediately got rid of pain and bloating, but it did take a good year and a half until I had no more digestive symptoms. For me it just took some trial and error (I don't do well with nuts!) and just patience to heal. Most with Celiac need to heal the gut lining and then start absorbing nutrients properly before symptoms are fully gone. I haven't gone 'off' SCD but can eat potatoes, chocolate (homemade), raw fluid milk, maple syrup, etc with no problems. I can eat some grains (rice, quinoa) once in a while but choose not to because I start craving carbs again. Interestingly, I start craving carbs if I indulge in grains, but maple syrup or potatoes don't seem to cause it. Some people need to ease in as opposed to jumping right in. GF isn't going to be sufficient to effect his gut bacteria and allow the lining of his gut to healand villi to regrow without also getting rid of other sugars.Mara
