Hi everyone--

I have a question:

I had my surgery in June and almost all of my numbness has disappeared

but there is still a rather large area (hlaf of bottom lip and chin)

that is completely numb and feels strange. Actually there is tingling

and itchiness quite often but it is completely numb. Does eveyone still

have some of this at 13 weeks or so? What have your experiences been

with this. Also is everyone pleased with their new look? I am not

really fond of how I look now :(

Cant wait to hear from you

Hi Sherry,

I am just over 6 months post op for upper/lower/genio and I still have

numbness in my lower lip and chin. My surgeon estimated about a year

for all of my sensation to return, explaining that it just takes the

nerves a long long time to refigure it out. It is hard to be patient

and wait day to day, but I have consistently noticed improvement on a

week to week or month to month basis, so i try to latch my thoughts

onto that improvement instead of how long it's taking! So, at least

according to my surgeon, you are completely normal in this process to

still have some numbness. It's frustrating though, huh?!?!

I'm sorry you aren't pleased with your new looks. That must be really

difficult to grapple with.... Maybe you will be more content in time.

Just looking different is a huge change! I am still not totally used

to myself! I have my days when I am less than thrilled with my look

too. I hope you start to feel better about that. What do those around

you think? Have you received positive input from your family/friends

about your new look? What don't you like now?

Take care,

Katja :)

Hi, I am 6 weeks post-op and my chin and lip are still

numb. My OS told me not to expect full feeling back

in my chin/lip for 6-12 months. Like you I have some

tingling sensations, but he told me not to worry...the

feeling will come back. And the tingling is a good

thing, it means that the nerves are waking up.

Hi Sherry,

I am 8 weeks post-op (lower jaw advancement) and my chin and bottom lip

are still numb. I feel itching, tingling, zaps, tickles, and sometimes

dripping that is not really there...but yet it is still numb. Just

like Katja's surgeon, mine estimated that it will take a year as well.
