Hello, I know what a Maxillary Osteotomy is (LeFort), and have some

idea of what a Mandibular Midline Osteotomy is (BSSO?), but what is a

Horizontal Osteotomy? Which jaw will this be performed on? ~~~ Diane

I had the same procedures done in June and I'm doing great now. My

surgery went very well and my recovery was pretty easy. Sure there were

days where I was frustrated and down in the dumps but I tried to keep

as positive as possible and get back to my normal routine as soon as I

could and I found that really helped speeden up the recovery process. I

also took arnica tablets pre and post-surgery and had MLD (manual

lymphatic massages) done pre and post-op and that really helped with

keeping the bruising to a minimum as well as swelling. Now at 4 and

half months post-op i've recovered almost all of my nerve sensations

(just a few numb spots in my mouth and my chin but very minimal i.e. I

ccan live with them for the rest of my life if I had to). I breathe a

lot better, my smile looks a lot better (no more open bite or gummy

smile) and I can bite into a pizza properly. Best of all I have had no

headaches as a result of TMJ pain since the surgery.

If you want to check out my pre and post-op pics see my album under

SARA.

Good luck!
