Guest guest
Frances - hello! Nice to meet you. You know - I'm not sure if this would help as I do not know where the shots are being administered - however, my son Ian (2.5 yrs) recently has been getting his blood sugars tested. Now although this is obviously a different experience needle wise - nevertheless, I have found that Ian NO LONGER cries or gives me a hard time since I've given him the control of the situation. What I do now is tell him we are checking his blood sugars. He sais " I want to do it " . So, I tell him fine and to pick a finger or toe. He gets to pick. Then, I have him wipe the area with the alcohol swab. Then, I let him push the button on the monitor. Then, I ask him to push the button on the pen (well, he always refuses and tells me to do it - but, I still give him the choice) and then after it's over (again, he never cries anymore) he gets to wipe the area again with the alcohol wipe. This has been a tremendous success for me. Now, I also have a 4 year old (well, tomorrow he will be 4) and he sometimes likes to help - so, Ian will sometimes let him push the button, etc. My 4 year old (as you know) likes to do everything himself. Like, when I give him medicine - he has to push the syringe, etc. So, if there is some type of control you can give Max - try that. See what happens. Good Luck and keep us posted! - H > > Hi all, > My son, Max, is 5.5 with SGA and maybe RSS (borderline case & we > haven't had the genetics tests done yet. Guest guest
i do have always done christopher's on the inside of his thighs since there is more fat there than his arms (we just started to use his arms recently and he is finally fine with it) also dont use the acohol on his skin sometimes it may not be dried all the way and that can cause it to burn. also let it sit out in room temp for about 15-20mins before giving it, if it is too cold that can ,make it burn as well. get a calendar for him to put a sticker on after his shot and make some kind of reward system for it as well. gets so many stars receives ________ (you fill in the blank). make it a routine before bed, but before he is tird and cranky (he would probably fight you no matter what you do at that point). good luck!! jodie c (nicholas-7 1/2 nonrss, christopher-4 1/2 rss 39.33 " 29.98lbs periactin 6.8ml 2x daily, ght genotropin .7, ADHD & OCD possible, assmentry (left leg 1cm), scoliosis 8 degree curve to right, athon-2 1/2 nonrss)
