Guest guest
Hello there, - I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you that all goes well on the 29th. As for me, Tuesday was my OD adjustment appointment. Originally I was to have a Cephalometric xray taken on Nov. 29th, but my OD has moved that up to next Thursday, as well as a set of molds and the installing of the bands on the 2nd molars to get those teeth in alignment with the rest of my mouth. I was told that they are needed for my surgery - they have hooks on them. So those lousy spacers got put on yesterday, which has made eating/chewing back there rather painful. I emailed my OMS (Dr. ) a few weeks ago to let him know that I was progressing right along, and that my OD (Dr. Slattery) is taking very good care of me, which will be obvious when he sees how well my teeth are moving into place. What a coincidence that my ceph. and molds have been moved up, and that Dr. received that email from me!! (Does this make sense or am I being too suspicious? LOL) I think the two of them are thinking that that I'm progressing faster than they expected but don't want to get my hopes up that I could be going into surgery sooner. Dr. is as anxious to get my surgery done as I am.// The problem with my crowns continues. When I went to my OD last month, he mentioned that he hated my two lower front(central incisors) crowns and would like to get them removed and temps put on.(the crowns are 29 years old.) The crowns have little bumps on the lingual side near the gumline, which he feels are interfering with my upper front teeth moving back and aligning in the arch. My upper teeth are resting on those bumps. He talked with my dentist about it, but my dentist told him he would prefer to replace them after my braces were off. Well, yesterday, after examining those crowns he has decided to talk with my dentist again, this time to have him trim down some of the porcelain adjacent to the bumps. My OD says he could do it but my dentist is better equipped to handle any problems such as the crowns fragmenting into pieces, which would mean temporaries.// So, , aren't you relieved that you don't have to go thru any of this? The end to your long orthognathic journey is definitely just a few weeks away - I am so-o envious, but know my turn will be coming too! Guest guest
Hi Diane, I'm glad to hear your teeth are progressing so well with the braces although those crowns do sound annoying (and those darn spacers, too). I don't have any crowns yet but my OS has mentioned that I will need some. My molars are ground down to nubs since they are the only teeth that touched for 35+ years. He does want me to wait a while before I have that done until we're sure that everything is healed and stable. As far as I'm concerned, I could wait forever! When do they think you'll be ready for surgery? I'm sure you can't wait to get it over with and finally have that perfect bite. Let us know what they say about your x-rays and molds. > > > > > > > > I just came back from my ortho appt and I'm still in shock. Guest guest
- The answer to your question " When do they think you'll be ready for surgery? " is: they aren't saying anything, or at least my OD isn't saying anything, and I ask him every time I see him. My OD was surprised that my OMS didn't email me back, but maybe he's waiting to get a look at my Ceph. and molds before he communicates with me. I think my OD is afraid to speculate, but I get the impression that I'm way ahead of schedule; that's why the date to get my Ceph. and molds done was moved up. They both know how very anxious I am, so I think they are being careful about what they are telling me. I'm sure I won't be asked to transport the xrays and molds to my OMS's office on my appointment date either, because my OMS knows that I can read xrays (, since you and I are medical: I have assisted at numerous FNA's and am very knowledgable when it comes to interpreting CAT scans and Fluoro films), and he knows that there is a " light box " in one of my Pathologist's offices. The two of them know that, if given the chance, I will study my Ceph's and draw my own conclusions. Boy, those two are very sneaky! or I'm very suspicious! - probably a little of both. Oh, and my appointment with Dr. is Dec. 13th, my birthday. I'm going to ask him for two " presents " - 1) definitely do the LeFort, and 2) move my surgery up a month or two. I'll definitely let you know how next Thursday goes, although I doubt my OD will have any news to share with me.// Thank you for your continued support. ~~~~ Diane (Idaho) > > > > > > > > > > I just came back from my ortho appt and I'm still in shock. > I > > > > jokingly > > > > > was going to ask him when he thought I might be able to get > my > > > > braces > > > > > off.
