Guest guest
Hi Holly I just looked at your photo, and it made me think about all the other photos I've looked at of people with a jaw that looks like yours. The difference is always amazing and the person looks fabulous afterwards. I bet you are going to be SO delighted with the results. Have a look through all the other photos and see what I mean - I bet you'll find it very inspiring. All the best, > > Hi, > > I happened to stumble across this site while i was searching for more > info on the procedure im having done. > Whilst browsing through the posts here you all seem very > knowledgeable... Guest guest
Hi Holly I'm having surgery for my underbite on 22nd November, so I'll be a day behind you. I'm having my lower jaw moved back and my upper jaw moved up at the back, I'm sure of the exact measurements. I'm worried I might be a bit of a wreck too when my mum leaves me, but I know I just have to keep focussing on the end result, and why I've gone through years of braces and the discomfort that goes with them. I tend to be a bit of an ostrich when I have to face something I don't want to do - I just go through the motions and know everything will be ok in the end. I'm grateful that it's not a series of exams, or a job interview - all we have to do is turn up and everyone else does the hard work - the surgeon, the nurses, etc. I also take solace in the fact that so many other people have been through it. You mention your friends' reactions. I've found myself having to defend why I am going through this to some friends, particularly because I am in the UK and having it done " on the National Health Service " - therefore people think it's their taxes paying for it, so I should be able to justify it. To begin with this frustrated me, but I'm over that now. One of my friend's dad is an NHS orthodontist and he told me that people who have that opinion have already made their minds up, whatever you say, and it's best to just make a joke of it - I've gone for something along the lines of " actually, this is just the start of it, after I've had my jaws wired shut (which of course is something I chose to do lightly), I'm going to have liposuction, breast augmentation, etc, etc, and it's all on the NHS! " . This kind of shuts them up. Anyway, my true friends and family support me, and realise the long- term medical benefits as well as the cosmetic/confidence aspects. That's all that really matters. I hope all goes well for you, and keep reading the posts for reassurance. > > Hi, > > I happened to stumble across this site while i was searching for more > info on the procedure im having done. > Whilst browsing through the posts here you all seem very > knowledgeable... Guest guest
Blimey thats a long time in hospital. They're hoping 5 days for me inc HDU. I've got a twisted thing for watching all these major plastic surgery things on TV, the " I want a famous face " one amazes me. Theres these kids about the same age as me, who go in, have crazy amounts of surgery, then once theyre awake and able to talk a bit theyre shipped off back home. its crazy! Nice to see that theres a few people here getting it done on the good ol NHS. People knock it but I cant really complain. Only bad I've had done to me from the hospital its all taking place in is a blood test. it was 2 weeks ago and i still have a wicked big bruise. I'd love to be able to sit down with each of my friends who dissagree with my decision to do this. their general argument is " well... cause you dont need it! you look fine! " . That doesnt hold much for me. I dont think my family really know whats happening. I know my grandparents wouldnt agree so I think that its become a silent agreement to tell them as little as possible. My dad... well i dont think he cares too much. But i cant imagine any of them actually saying they dont agree to my face. Im glad everything went well, and it looks spiffy! Holly xox > > ,and Holly, > > I live in the UK and I had my surgery done on the NHS too. Most of my family and friends were behind me with the surgery but my dad and his girlfriend were against the idea. They said that I shouldn't mess with what I had been born with, if that's the case then do they think I shoudln't have had my cleft lip and palate repaired? > > Our surgeons wouldn't do the surgeries if they didn't think they were needed! > > I was admitted into hospital the day before my surgery and when my mum left that night it dawned on me that I was having surgery the next morning. I was relieved to see my mum the morning of the surgery as she was allowed to come to the OR and saty with me until I was knocked out! I was in HDU for the first three days after surgery and stayed in hospital for ten days after my surgery. > > > I had upper jaw surgery, major nose reconstruction, cheek bone and bone graft taken from my hip.
