Guest guest
Where do you live? on Farms is a good brand- legal. I also find Teeter chicken without broth added. I also found legal Publix brand in Atlanta. I will say that the cheaper brands of chicken have the most additives. To save on costs, I check the circulars. Whenever a brand of chicken that I know is legal is on the weekly special- I stock up on it and put it in the freezer. Legal turkey is harder to find. I almost never buy it. I have not found legal ground turkey or chicken near me, but I know people in larger cities have found them. There are good prices at Trader Joes if you have one near you. Sometimes after Thanksgiving the stores reduce their prices on turkey and I have found some good deals on legal turkey then. It is usually a more expensive brand so if it is on special I get it. I try to save on costs by checking the circulars regularly and stocking up on specials. The chicken at our local Sam's club has illegal additives, but they have good prices on nuts, fruit, eggs and other legal items. To save money on SCD I rotate where I shop to find the best prices...and I always check labels carefully. Guest guest
Hi- I'm in the south- NC- and Teeter is a local store in this area. I haven't bought turkey since last Thanksgiving- but I read the labels and the one I bought said " no additives minimally handled with only 1 or 2% water added " ( a normal part of processing ). This type of label is generally safe. Most turkeys in the store have added broth, but this was a specialty item that did not get sold by Thanksgiving so they reduced it and I grabbed it. I don't remember the brand. I hope some members of this board who live near you can help with local sources. Guest guest
Kind of OT but I was watching an old childs episode where she shows how to cut up a chicken. That woman is so funny to watch. And I learned how to do it. Guest guest
Chicken and turkey are pretty much all the protein I can eat, so I'm always looking to see what's on sale. There's a local brand that's pretty good, not organic and not grass-fed but at least no anti-biotics or hormones. It is more expensive. But we check the weekly flyer for the store and OK, if legs are on sale, we get me legs. If breasts are two for one, we get that. It really doesn't take very long at all to whack up a chicken, and good kitchen scissors sometimes are easier than a big knife (at least for me). If I want ground chicken meat I just do it myself with my old-fashioned hand grinder. It only takes a few minutes and that way I know there's no illegal stuff in it. Turkey is harder. Better around Thanksgiving and I try to have extra freezer space in November and pick up the better type turkeys while on sale. Guest guest
Sprouts is really good! I buy chicken, turkey, and beef from them. I always get 1/2 a turkey breast though, not ground. Knowing Sprouts, their ground turkey is legal, but you still should check to make certain. Also, they have turkey year round. I just bought 1/2 a breast last week :-). Guest guest
I get my chicken at Sprouts. They tell me it is " just " chicken. Guest guest
You might try www.eatwild.com or http://www.localharvest.org/ to find some local suppliers. > > What chicken do I buy, I Don't Cut up chickens, need to know where to get chicken parts, We are on a tight budget and sometimes the chicken thighs are really cheap , but I keep noticing most all of them say with 10% chicken broth added. maybe I am worrying too much Cause I do that! > and the turkey to make turkey patties with where what store what brand? >
