Guest guest
I'm also 8 weeks post op. I have been clenching at night as well. Not horribly though. I still don't have much feeling in my teeth, however i have been getting like tingling throbbing in the roots of my teeth. Almost like biting into a cold icecream cone. I'm also still eating soft foods as well. Although I find my chewing is getting better. Stretching really helps strengthen the muscles. > Hi, > > My name is Delaine and I'm now 8 weeks post op from up jaw surgery. > Just a couple of weeks ago I began clenching really bad during the > night while I slept. Guest guest
Wow. I didn't expect anyone else to be having this same problem, let alone respond to my e-mail. These postings really work! Anyhow, It's good to hear that someone else is in the same situation. Have you called your surgeon about it? I also have been getting those tingling feelings in the very top of my teeth. I know it's all part of the healing process and I'm sure that's normal. I just didn't know what to think about the clenching part. My chewing is definitely better as well. What do you mean about stretching the muscles? Opening and closing your mouth? Thanks for writing. =O) > > Hi, > > > > My name is Delaine and I'm now 8 weeks post op from up jaw surgery. > > Just a couple of weeks ago I began clenching really bad during the > > night while I slept. Guest guest
I was clenching my teeth quite a lot post op too, particularly when i had the splint in. It was like a nervous reaction, I couldn't help it and then my jaw joints would end up becoming sore. Now at 3 months and half post-op I don't clench any more. I just sort of stopped, not sure why. It happened about 3 weeks ago. I was a teeth clencher already before surgery so perhaps now that my bite is in the right position I don't tend to clench as much and have slowly gotten out of the habit. It takes time for one to lose old habits:-) As for regaining sensation in my teeth - I am still pretty numb across my whole upper teeth and gum area and have only just begun eating " harder " foods. I can feel the sensation coming back more and more every day because my gums sometimes burn and I get a pang of pain in my teeth and nerve area. I'm confident it will all come back eventually. One needs to be patient and stay positive. That's the best advice I can give you. However, I would mention the teeth clenching to your surgeon to see what he says. Good luck, Sara > > Hi, > > > > My name is Delaine and I'm now 8 weeks post op from up jaw surgery. > > Just a couple of weeks ago I began clenching really bad during the > > night while I slept.
