My daughter (3.5 yr) has been on SCD for 5 months now. Showed a big

improvement with BM by 2nd week on SCD. Was well for 3 weeks, when suddenly her

darrihea started. She didn't have this kind of Diarrhea prior to SCD.

WE did some mistakes in the beginning. Should have added probiotics earlier.

Did intro 3 times. did see some improvement but as soon as i add little more

food (still all stage 1 or 2 food),start to see blood in the stool.

Currently, her bowl frequency has gone up, started to see more blood, stools are

not formed, maybe mushy or loose and sometimes watery darrihea. I have a strong

feeling she has YEAST overgrowth, esp with very limited food that she can take.

She has this white coating on her tongue, thrush. She had thrush issues when

she was baby - 2 months old and was on Nystain.

Our GI doctor wants to put her on medicine (Sulfasalazine) based on her blood in

the stool and every now and then watery darrihea.

I am having a hard time deciding wheather to start on the medicine. I am

pleading to you all if anyone has gone thru this, could you please advice what

to do.

Some of my concerns are:

Can sulfasalazine worsen the yeast issues.??

I am reading about sulfasalzine- Is this antibiotic.?? I can't find an exact

answer on this. If this is antibiotics, i am thinking all my hard work on SCd

will be a waste in terms of yogurt and probiotics that we have been giving to

her.

If yeast overgrowth, and having colitis, can yeast cause bleeding and make the

colitis worse. Maybe then I should concentrate getting yeast under control.

Again this is hard, because she is not able to tolerate a lot of food. Zucchin,

butternut, banana, carrot, are some of her main food that she is able to

tolerate but then they are also liked by yeast. That makes it hard to control

yeast with food.

I really wanted to do SCd for her without medicine, as I know this diet did work

for her when we started. Anyone out there think if its possible to get her

better without medicine, please give me suggestions.

If I decide to go with the medicine, what precautions should i be taking.

Or any recommendation for another medicine based on your experience

Greatly appreciate your advice

Please help me.

Thank you

Rani
