Guest guest
Eating stimulates the gastro-colic reflex which makes you go to the bathroom. Mostly we are able to suppress this so we do not go every time we eat, but if the GI tract is irritated, it is hard to do this. Going every time I ate was one of my initial symptoms, which alerted me that something was not right, since this is not my usual pattern. So eating more will make him go, but it does not mean that the food is going through faster because he ate, although is probably is because of his illness. The way I managed this, pre-scd, was with Boost, because that got calories in me without sending me to the bathroom. The frequency issue got better the longer I was on SCD. Immodium contains illegals. I don't know if anyone on the board uses it, as I don't. You may want to try making your own version of SCD legal Boost with SCD yogurt, nut butters, ripe bananas, coconut oil and so on to get calories in him. If they are not too hot or too cold and he sips them slowly, they may not make him " go " . Calcium is a binder and I added Now brand powdered calcium to help, but don't too much, more than the suggested dose, and the kidneys could not handle that.I used pure calcium, not calcium with magnesium, because magnesium has a laxative effect. I sure hope he feels better because that is hard on both of you. I know your love and attention is making him feel better. PJ > > Is imodium ok to use. Guest guest
Peptobismal is legal - is it the liquid only?? My Gall bladder surgeon once told me that he'd much rather have people use pepto than immodium because he has seen too many cases where immodium causes blockages that actually require surgery. Pepto is gentler. I try not to use anything, but sometimes I've just had to if I'm in a situation where I'm having D and I won't have access to a bathroom!
