back in 2006 the doc ordered a cocktail of prednisone, imuran, and NAC

didn't know that nac helped with the mucus until recently

back then i did notice that i was always coughing up stuff and after being on the cocktail for awhile, it stopped

also, some other things improved, don't remember specifics, maybe a decrease in the cough

family members did notice an improvement

was it from the cocktail or a specific component of the cocktail, i don't know, but it worked for a long time

unfortunately, i was supposed to increase the imuran gradually, forgot to do it, then when i did increase it, more than gradually, [i think i doubled it] i had a reaction to it, so i had to stop taking it

whether the NAC thins the mucus or decreases it, i don't know, just that it is supposed to help and if it works then that is what counts

Pink JoyceDoes NAC actually decrease the mucus? I understood it thinned it and thereby made it easier to expel. So if you have a lot of "thick" mucus do you get more as it is thinned? When I take the NAC I seem to be OK for a few days and then it starts getting nasty because I am coughing all of the time because I feel like I have more mucus. I lay off for a few days and the cough decreases in frequency, but is harder because the mucus is thicker again. I have an added complication because I injured/tore an intercostal muscle along the rib cage and it hurts so much when I cough. I has been a month since I injured the muscle and it still hurts. They told me it could take 2 months or longer for the muscle to heal, and with me coughing all of the time.. it could take longer.
