Guest guest
Hello everyone - It's Charlene, mom to . I have a few questions concerning behaviours that worry me and I'm hoping you have some answers. has bouts of emotional upset that seem really extreme to us and he never makes eye contact with people who speak to him. This was always something that my husband and I dealt with in our own way, but now that he is at school it appears that maybe we need to deal more proactively than we have been. The other big issue is around his voice - it is unbelievalby pitchy normally - and any emotional extreme of happiness, sadness or anger makes it 10x worse. It can be very disarming for people who don't know and lately we are noticing that people aren't very forgiving of this. Recently his teacher told me that his voice alone would try the patience of a saint. I laughed it off but inside I could have cried. Also, at bedtime he seems to be engaging in behavouiurs that border on Obsessive Compulsive ( how he gets undressed, where his dirty clothes go, whose teeth get brushed first etc.)At school he is obsessed with being the last one in line for everything, is that not bizarre? We are just starting to notice the extremes of these behaviours mostly because of school, I think or I hope. Any advice? - Comments? Thanks! Guest guest
Charlene - I'm going to leave this topic to the experts - and I know for sure you will get some responses regarding the OCD - I believe there are several children in this group that are diagnosed with this. They could probably ask you questions and give you some insight. As far as the voice - if it were me - I would be very forthright with the teacher and explain that this is a " part " of himself and as we are unable to change what GOD gave us, if she could please find it within herself to be more forgiving of this difference, it would be most appreciated. I'm sorry she upset you so and I would have had the mind to say something to her myself had I been there. Hugs to you. Just know that by 5:00 pm every day - my son Ian's voice encourages many of us to start thinking of ear plugs! LOL But, when he's screaming - we all run and hide! LOL This high pitched voice is very normal and I actually love calling some of my listserve friends on the phone and listen to their children - it's so sweet to know they all have this in common and it's their trait and not one we can share - it's all their own. God love em. Have a good day. Keep your chin up! <grin> - H > > Hello everyone - It's Charlene, mom to . Guest guest
Hi Charlene, Our son has been diagnosed with PDD (pervasive developmental disorder)/OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder). The psychiatrist said that it is very difficult to differentiate between the two with young children. Anyway, (and many other RSS children) has an exceptionally high pitched voice. I understand that this will get better when he gets older. As for the PDD/OCD, is on medication to help with this. It has made a tremendous difference in our lives. Guest guest
hey Charlene!! christopher is possible OCD as well. everything revolves around numbers for him. dr h told us not to " play " into it. so to a degree we try not to. our ped. also told us that if it started to interfere with his day to day life that we could medicate him for it but so far so good. as far as the other behaviors could his Blood Sugars be dropping or going high? christopher's behaviors change extremely when his BS does!! just a thought. jodie c
