Guest guest
Speaking personally, I have a few issues. One is calorie packing 's food. We are weaning off the pump (just cut back another 150 ml per day) and need to make that up in food. I have no idea how many calories eats, let alone how many he should eat. The other is decreasing Becca's calories as she is becoming overweight. Guest guest
Hi Judith. I don't know much about nutrition but I do know that when Brockton recently saw a nutritionist she said he should be getting between 1100 and 1300 calories per day. I honestly don't know how you can track these kids intake...........Brocktons, at least. He eats so many times a day, but such small amounts, rarely a full serving of anything. He is supposed to have 4 cans of Pediasure a day, which are 237 calories per 8 oz. can. I wish I had some wise words for you. If you figure something out, make sure to let the rest of us know! Whether you're able to go to Convention or not, what would your requests/concerns/questions be for her? We're talking with her this week to go over expectations and want to make sure she really focuses on the needs of RSS/SGA families. (e.g. I would love to see the advice she has re: school lunches for the RSS/SGA kid). http://www.magicfoundation.org/downloads/cv06web925.pdf Thanks..! Guest guest
Katy, I also would want to know how many Calories are needed , not just to sustain Grace, but to help her grow. Does it matter what calories come from(sugar/fat/protein)? I have also been wondering about vitamins/ supplements. Do they recommend any? I have many friends who are really into natural/organic/supplements. How can I add calories without adding quantity? Thanks! Can't wait to hear the teams advice at the Conference. Guest guest
I would like to know what the best foods are to keep Blood Sugars stable for the longest periods of time. I would also like to know what to do if your kid is so picky that all you can get in is bad calories...do you supplement with OTC vitamins or what?! --- In RSS-Support , " katyudine " wrote: > > Hi, > As you may know, one highlight of Convention 06 is this: the Ellyn > Satter Feeding Therapist/Dietician team is coming to not only present > a nutrition/feeding talk, but will also be on hand during the entire > Convention to meet families. > > Whether you're able to go to Convention or not, what would your > requests/concerns/questions be for her? Guest guest
hi; we found out in some text (we don´t remember exactly where)that a normal child need 90 cal/kg/day, and a RSS child in order to catch up needs 130 and idealy 160 cal/kg/day. Dr. Harbison, adviced us to put cream in the milk (1 oz crean and 3 oz milk), we have 1 bottle to the RSS child and another for the others childrens. Also our child loves catchup, so we put canola oil in it, also a special catchup for the others childrens. This week we made pop-corn and for the RSS we put melt-butter > > > > Hi, > > As you may know, one highlight of Convention 06 is this: the > Ellyn > > Satter Feeding Therapist/Dietician team is coming to not only > present > > a nutrition/feeding talk, but will also be on hand during the > entire > > Convention to meet families. > > > > Whether you're able to go to Convention or not, what would your > > requests/concerns/questions be for her? Guest guest
Hi, This issue is exactly what I need, and here goes some questions: 1 - In Ellins Satter´s book, she wrotes that a parent is responsable for meal´s menu and time, but about the amount a child need to eat, this is up to the child. Is this true also for RSS childs ? Our daughter (4 years) needs to intake calories in order to catch up, but it´s seems that whenever we try to feed her more, she eats worse. She used to eat by herself and now she wants us to feed her. 2- Is there any diference between fat, proteins or other calories ? 3- Are ice creams (made from eggs, oil and sugar) and chocolates good for her ? In chocolate we have a lot of calories. 4- Dr. Harbison told us to give 6 meals/day, we found it very hard to acomplish. It´s seems that she stills full from the last meal, any advise ? 5 - If you feed something to much fat (i.e. something with a lot of calories) in the breakfast, it´s possible that she will fell full for a long time ? Maybe it´s better to feed her those thing in the evening ? I hope listen from you some advices, Thank you Yacov > > Hi, > As you may know, one highlight of Convention 06 is this: the Ellyn > Satter Feeding Therapist/Dietician team is coming to not only present > a nutrition/feeding talk, but will also be on hand during the entire > Convention to meet families. > > Whether you're able to go to Convention or not, what would your > requests/concerns/questions be for her? Guest guest
Hi Yacov, Your questions are excellent...We had the exact same ones when was young--In fact, I found postings I wrote back in 1999 asking the same thing! I have spoken with Ellyn Satter and she will indeed address these questions. She knows that the RSS/SGA child may have seroius appetite issues that might not be solved by the methods she describes for normal kids. I do know that with , one thing that helped was creating his own " food cubbie " , at his height. We filled with snack items, crackers, raising, nuts, etc., and he seemed to have fun being in control of picking his own snacks. As for different types of calories, a calorie is a calorie is a calorie. However, sugars which convert quickly to calories can leave a child feeling full right away. It's always better to emphasize proteins and fats before the sugary foods. We used to give lots of Breyer's ice cream...we liked the fact that the only ingredients were natural... (Now, Dr. H. tells us that has to watch his weight...Unbelievable!!!! I never would have thought we would be telling him to not eat so much).
