Guest guest
Dr. Wakeham, who was yours? What did you have done? and how are you now? Today is the first day that I think the swelling has lessened. So I am wondering how long it takes to get back to normal. > > > > > > I had my lower jaw surgery yesterday at 8am and was out of the > > > hospital at 5pm that day. Guest guest
Mine was Dr. - I hear Dr. Wakeham is a good Dr. I had my upper jaw tilted and lower brought forward and rotated. I had an expansion done 3 yrs. ago (it's been a long haul). I'm 6 weeks as of tomorrow and feel pretty normal right now. My swelling has finally gone down, although I know there is still some there, right around my nose & cheeks, but it's not that noticeable anymore. Swelling can take a long time to go away. Numbness and eating are my only concerns at this point. You're only 1 week now, right? You still have a ways to go, but everyone heals differently. I didn't get up and get back into action soon enough because I had lots of help, and I think that's why my swelling lasted so long. At 4 weeks I still felt pretty puffy, but I looked more normal than I did at 1 week. Are you wired or banded? Do you have a splint? I felt great once I got the splint out at 4 weeks - it was wonderful to be able to eat with a spoon and drink from a cup, which I couldn't do with the splint in my mouth, just too difficult. I remember at 1 week I was still drooling like crazy and thought 'oh my god, what if this lasts forever?' I really freaked myself out, but, it didn't last so I'm happy (lol). I'm off to see Dr. right now then off to get my first adjustment from the orthodontist. I hope everything goes well with you.......good luck! Guest guest
---Thanks for writing back. I too have a splint and bands. The bands aren't too bad but I am getting a little sick of the splint. When you can only open yoour mouth so far the splint seems to take up so much room. When you went for your first adjustment on your braces were you able to keep your mouth open wide enough for them? Who is your orothodontist? (mine is Dr. Wally Dhol).I admire you for having another surgery, I'm not sure that I would do this again. Guest guest
Hi , my orthodontist is Dr. Antosz, he's by Market Mall. I just came back from my first braces adjustment - I'm not supposed to be opening my mouth yet, so I just opened it as much as I was comfortable. My first surgery was not nearly as traumatic as this one, and I agree with you, I would not be too pleased to go through this type of surgery again. But...I got my bands and surgical wires off today so I'm pretty happy. Next week I will start exercising my jaw, then the week after I will be allowed to chew. I really want to start chewing, I know it will take a while to get into that. I think you only got lower jaw done, correct? If that's true, then your swelling will probably go down alot quicker than mine did - it seems the upper part of the face takes longer to go down. Take care, good luck with your recovery, Pam > > > > > > > > > > > > I had my lower jaw surgery yesterday at 8am and was out of > > the > > > > > > hospital at 5pm that day.
