Guest guest
My GI doc just called and left a message. The organism grew from his gastrostomy site was Eikenella - it is a mouth organism and not a skin organism and that's why it wasn't sensitive to the Keflax antibiotic initially given - but, this current antibiotic - Bactrim - should be sensitive to that - and she will call me again tomorrow to make sure it's responding. If not, we can give him a shot tomorrow with a little stronger strength of the same meds he's getting. She will check the culture more tomorrow and make sure there isn't anything else to be concerned about. She reiterated that the site developed this infection probably from when they pulled the tube through the mouth during surgery and it has NOTHING to do with my cleaning or anything else we've done at home. Just FYI. Sounds like we are on the right track. - H
