Guest guest
Eileen The key date is the effective date of your Social Security. So the two years does run from the time they say you were legally disabled, which I imagine is at least a few months ago. Now, meanwhile are you eligible for Cobra under your husband's insurance? I know its probably very expensive even if you are. Others here have been through the wait and intermediate period without insurance and can point you toward some of the charity programs the hospitals have to help for that time. > > Hi All > I was approved for Soc Sec disability in Sept. Those of you who met me in Orlando may remember I was so scared I would not be approved. Anyway, I was told that I could not get Medicare until I am on SS dis for 2 years. My employer ins runs out at the end of this month. My husband has been unemployed since July so I cannot get on his ins. Anyway, all my " meaning well " friends and family keep telling me about people they know that got medicare right away w disability. As I understand it, unless you have renal failure or Lou Gehrigs disease, the wait is 2 years. I cannot get medicaid because I have over $3,000 in assets. Since I learn more on this website than anywhere else, I figured I would ask the experts. Am I missing something about Medicare? > > Eileen, 58 IPF/UIP May 07 > Boca Raton FL >
Guest guest
Erna 1992 bird fanciers syndrome CAD & MI 2004 ILD 2008 NSIP 2009 Washington State Hi, Eileen Each state has different guidelines to qualify for Medicaid. SSDI is a U.S government sponsored program, basically it is aligned with social security/ : Like if you did not pay in to Social security you cannot get SSDI money and can only get Medicaid money. While Medicaid is a state run program and the state sets the rules and puts some of their own money in. Most states have cut their Medicaid programs right now. Not knowing what Florida’s guidelines are to get approved for Medicaid and I even searched for you on their website… Wow, it was very strange they do not have much information on their site compared to my state. http://www.fdhc.state.fl.us/Medicaid/about/about2.shtml I do not know what you services you have first of all: did you call the telephone number in this link. Also could you put your assets in someone else you trusts name but before you do this I would find a community action service… Do you have anything like this in Florida? Some of these people working over there know how the system works and can guide you through it. Many of them are volunteers and some of them work try and get someone who has been there for a long time or works there to help you out… I hope this helps a little bit.. Guest guest
Pink You can actually continue Cobra until the Medicare kicks in. There is the normal 18 months but then if you provide the information that you were approved for disability effective within 60 days of going on Cobra, it can be extended until Medicare kicks in, a total of up to 11 additional months. > > > > > > From: Eileen nivlag1@ > > > Subject: Medicare question > > To: Breathe-Support@ yahoogroups. com > > Date: Wednesday, January 13, 2010, 12:46 PM > > > > > >  > > > > > > > > Hi All > > I was approved for Soc Sec disability in Sept.
