Guest guest
Sounds exactly like reactive hypoglycemia to me. Mine can shoot up to 265 and drop to 50 inside an hour...doc wants me to keep glucose tabs with me.. but I find PB crackers do the trick as well without spiking me back up again Someone else probably has all the scientific reasoning behind this...so I ll leave that to them. Regards~ Jacque I am so confused!! Last week I was told that my blood sugar on a routine bld test was 43, That was not fasting, it was late afternoon and I had been eating normally thru the day. I was give a glucometer and told to test when I was symptomatic. I was NOT symptomatic when it was 43. Fast forward. I checked my bg when I got up on Friday morning and it was 96. I then had breakfast of a protein shake, checked it out of curiosity after an hour and it was 72. I haven't checked it since, mostly cause when I felt awful was at work. I work night shift. I got up at 5:30P today. had my cup of coffee and at 7:00 I had dinner, 1/2 of a breaded fried chicken breast. By 7:30 I felt hot nauseous, and my heart rate was 112. I took my bg and it read 206! Yikes! I felt better (except my heart rate was still uncomfortably high) at 7:55, so I rechecked my bg and it was 106. What the heck is going on??????? What I ate for dinner should NOT have raised my blood sugar like that. I know I am going to have to call the doc. I can't do it tomorrow as I am working 11-7 tonight and then have to be back at work at 3P tomorrow and working until 7A on Wed. So I really am not going to be able to see him Wed either, I will be comatose! LOL and then of course is the Thanksgiving holiday, so chances are his office won't be open again til Monday. Anyone else have this happen? and if so were you given any kind of explanation? I don't think it is diabetes as the blood sugar came down so quickly. But I can't see how I could have had reactive hypoglycemia from what I ate. I will definitely check it several times over the next few days to try to get a pattern (if there is one). I am thinking I may need to see an endocrinologist. Any thoughts? Phyllis Lap RNY 10/08/02 260/140/
