Guest guest
, Thanks, without a sense of humor I would not be able to do this. I love them more than I can express but it's not easy to share a home with them. Things like having the thermostat set all the way up to 76, the gas fireplace on and my mom complaining about how cold it is. I should mention that this house is only 2 years old, is tight as a drum and it's most certainly not cold. I try not to allow myself to be drawn into the little controversies. I just don't have the energy and it doesn't solve anything. Screaming underwater sounds like fun to me! Guest guest
, It's nice to know this is fairly universal. lol Right now I'm sitting in my living room (a converted bedroom) The thermostat is set at 77 (my 75 year old Dad controls the thermostat), the gas fireplace is on in the big living room and the temperature in the house is 81. It's insane. I'm sitting here in summer pajamas and I've got a window open. It's 37 outside but I need some air in here. Last night after my folks had both gone to bed I set the thermostat back to 70....I like to live on the edge. One of them got up in the middle of the night sometime and set it back up to 74. I heard about it this morning. My mother sniffed, 'older people feel the cold more you know'. I don't argue. What's the point? Guest guest
MB Maybe you might offer this to them. It seems either they are too cold or you are two hot. Now that leaves a couple of options. One, they could use throws, blankets, slippers, sweaters or any number of ways to warm their bodies far better than heating the room does. Guest guest
Bruce, Have to laugh...have to so I don't hurt somebody. lol I'm actually very comfortable right now. Summer pj's the window is open an inch or so. It's ridiculous and wasteful but I can't fight it. I don't pay the heating bills, if I did we'd have the thermostat set at 65. And as far as blankets and appropriate clothing go...my dad has long johns under his clothes, and in addition has pants, socks, a t-shirt, collared shirt and sweatshirt. And he's sitting in an 81 degree room in front of a gas fireplace. My mom is in her bedroom, dressed in a shirt and pants but sitting in her recliner swathed in a green snuggi and a blanket over that. It's really fine. As long as they have the means to keep themselves comfortable in this way, I'm not going to tell them not to. The heat is really a small issue around here. Trust me there are bigger fish to fry. lol Beth Moderator Fibrotic NSIP 06/06 Dermatomyositis 11/08 To: Breathe-Support Sent: Fri, January 22, 2010 8:05:26 PMSubject: Re: MB Parents MBMaybe you might offer this to them. Guest guest
MB To find any two people do agree on room temperature is nearly impossible. The worst are those who go from hot to cold. When I lived alone, all my friends would come over wearing or carrying sweaters or sweat shirts. When they got there I would turn the temperature up but I didn't think about it until then. What was hilarious was to see someone in a tank shirt and shorts wearing a sweat shirt over them. After they'd been there and I'd had the air off a while they could finally take the sweat shirt back off. > > > > , > > It's nice to know this is fairly universal. lol Right now I'm sitting > in my living room (a converted bedroom) The thermostat is set at 77 > (my 75 year old Dad controls the thermostat), the gas fireplace is on in > the big living room and the temperature in the house is 81. I spend the month of July with my parents. My sister says How do you do it. I told her I just jump off the pier and scream like a lunatic under water. It is alittle harder to be so spontaneus with the oxygen but it still works......LOL > IPF 2/07 IL >
Guest guest
Because I am Old and I am a "parent" whose daughter stops in, I can chirp in here. My husband amd I have an ongoing "battle" -- He wants the thermostat at 68 and I would really like it to be a 71 -- we live in IL and it has been, of late 0 degrees to 30 degrees. When I am bustling around working -- I find 68 quite adequate. It is when I sit down to read or whatever that I find 68 chilly. Our kids have given up - and just say that this will remain an ongoing unresolved "battle." I turn it up; he turns it down. and keep sweaters and sweat shirts handy. And so it goes... I remember when my dad was still living and I was going everyevening to take care of them after work.. How plasted hot it was in there. Wore short sleeves always, and very light weight clothes, yep it was a sauna. LOL. Then the last 4 months i moved in, boy was that something. Slept with fans etc. Could hardly wait to go somewhere cool.
