Guest guest
, I am breaking my own rule and actually copying directly from a MAGIC document, because your question is so important, that I felt that the answer should come from a doctor, and not little old me. I can't remember how old is, but guessing since you said baby food, she is still an infant. The answer is a huge NO to putting corn syrup in to boost her calories. You can use Polycose however. The ifnormation is in the library article #H-26 in the MAGIC RSS/SGA library (you can get any article free from MAGIC as a member). Here is the specific answer from DR. Harbison: 5. Could we use corn syrup instead of Polycose for infants? Dr. H Responds: No. Corn syrup, like cornstarch, is much cheaper than Polycose. But it is not the same as Polycose. First, it contains more free glucose and shorter chains of glucose polymer so it lasts even a shorter time than Polycose. Second, it contains other materials that can be harmful to infants if taken chronically.
