Guest guest
Just got back from my surgeon's visit, he took my rubber bands off and saif I everything looks 100% better and said it looks like everything is going to be great. My surgeon said to trust him and If need be he will take me back in for a second go around if needed but he said so far everything looks real good. I dont know when I look in the mirror on my left side there it a pretty good size gap still but it has gotten smaller, he said also with having the splint on makes things look alot different too. my swelling has gone down some and i will say my chin looks pretty darn straight,it used to shift to my left side pretty bad. I shaved for the first time in like a week today and it was pretty hard! my chin is completely numb and it was very weird trying to shave in the area. My lips and mouth are a mess from the surgery...gotta really start puttin ointment on more often. I got the OK to eat foods like chili, scrambled eggs, etc Is it normal to have my bands taken off in a week?? I keep hearing people on here who are banded shut for weeks and i thought that was weird he took them off so soon. Well it was good news I guess, I dunno to me things just dont look right but he said everything is good so far...we shall se
Guest guest
i was tightly banded for 10 days and then moved to less tight bands that allowed me to open my mouth about 1cm and that i had to keep on for another two weeks (after 20 days i could take them off for meals). Then at 1 month post-op I was allowed to wear them only for 8 hours during the day and all night. Then at 2 months post-op I only had to wear them at night. At 4 mths post op I was told I could stop wearing them all together. > > Just got back from my surgeon's visit, he took my rubber bands off > and saif I everything looks 100% better and said it looks like > everything is going to be great. Guest guest
That's a pretty good report from your surgeon. I doubt he'd take bands off if he wasn't certain things were going well. As far as how long bands are on, it's different for everyone, so I wouldn't be too concerned about that. But do keep an eye on things, and also how things feel, and if you think that things are shifting, call your surgeon and go see him/her again. Things won't look " just right " to you after a week since this is all new to you, but remember that your surgeon sees many patients at this stage, and has more experience in telling how you are doing in the healing process. You'll find, as you already have, that things are starting to settle down and look better. Time for more interesting food options! Go get 'em! > > Just got back from my surgeon's visit, he took my rubber bands off > and saif I everything looks 100% better and said it looks like > everything is going to be great. Guest guest
Brad, Hi I read you story reg your surgery..You mentioned your lips..This is my 4th surgery and I found somthing for my lips that really help them heal..Aquaphor ointment..You can get generic of it at CVS Pharmacy (if you have one near you) or the brand name . It really healed my lip in a few days. Its only 52%, and it has other products in it...to me it works better than anything else I have tried in the past.. Guest guest
Hi Brad, I had a Lefort 3-piece on June 28th and was not banded until 5 weeks post op. I also had no splint post op. Each OS has their own way of doing things. I will be getting my braces off within the next few months, so the non banding following surgery surely didn't hurt anything. My OS informed me that since the surgery was very accurate, no banding was necessary. He informed me the reason he prefers not to band immediately following post op is because he prefers to allow the bones to heal a little bit before applying pressure with the bands. Of course if surgery would of been a little bit off, the banding would of been necessary. Like stated, be careful with any shifting that you may notice. The reason I was banded at 5 weeks post op was because my OD noticed that a crossbite and overbite was starting to develop. He immediately informed the OS who put me in the bands right away to stop the relapse. So if you notice any slight movement, don't hesitate to contact your OS. So count your blessings for getting those bands off so soon. I still have 1 band remaining. Knowing that these braces will be off soon, helps me tolerate that last remaining band..(haha) Best of Luck, --Caboose > > > > Just got back from my surgeon's visit, he took my rubber bands off > > and saif I everything looks 100% better and said it looks like > > everything is going to be great.
