I am 4 weeks out of upper only and still feel like I

have had a novacaine shot from the lips up to my eyes.

Every day I get just a bit more feeling back. My

palatte feels like it is plastic lined. As the

numbness goes away the pain is setting in. I guess

that is a good thing?!

I am afraid to floss and brush thinking I will damage

myself because I can't feel it. I did pull stiches

out brushing. THat stung a bit!

I had an upper le forte (3 piece segmentation rather than 4 piece) and

my palet was widened. This took place almost 5 months ago and I still

have some very slight numbness under my eyes and next to my nose. The

good news is that it has dramatically improved since I first had my

surgery. I would say that I really started to see a difference about 2

months post-op - that's when my nerves really started to wake up and

regenerate. You've probably heard this a million times but they key

thing is to stay patient and you'll see that things will get better a

little bit every day. Patience my friend!

Thanks. :) It seems like some people have been numb quite a while

and others 4 weeks is near the cutoff. I was just afraid this was

going to be a permanent thing. :( But I don't think that anymore. :)

I'm 9 weeks post-op from the same procedures as you. My eyes and nose

numbness lasted about 5 weeks. I had feeling in 3/4 of my lips by

about week two, but my lower right lip is still numb. When I got the

splint off, I went to a mexican resaurant and discovered afterwards

that I had been chewing my numb lip. Talk about a fat lip! I have been

having lots of phantom sensations in my numb lip, but when I actually

tough the lip, I feel nothing. It started when I pushed on the place

where my lower jaw was cut. Today, I pressed down on the teeth on the

lower right side and felt it in my numb lip. I'm assuming the nerves

are growing closer and closer to the lip. My surgeon told me that most

of the numbness is gone around week 13.

I had a similar amount of surgery (upper jaw into 3 pieces, lower

jaw backwards) 9 weeks ago and still have numbness in my chin and

left side of my bottom lip. I also chewed holes in my bottom lip

when I ate after having the splint removed. Its really easy to do,

so be careful! I had numbness under my left eye down to the corner

of my mouth for several weeks after surgery, but it is back to

normal now. The feeling is creeping in from my right side in my chin

and lip. I also have phantom itching and things in the numb parts,

its very annoying. :-) My surgeon has said its all normal and

since it is coming back, he's not concerned that its permanent.

I am 3 weeks post op from a lower jaw advancement. I am still totally

numb and have not noticed any improvement in sensation at all. I do

feel a tingly sensation and wierd fake itches but I am numb on the

gums, chin and lower lip. How long before anyone noticed improvement

in the feeling after surgery? I feel like I shouldn't chew as I don't

want to chomp on my cheek or lips by mistake. Just wondering what

other people have experienced.

Hello, I am four weeks post op, I am also numb in the lips and chin. I have

heard you start to regain feeling around week 8 or 9, so that's what I am

waiting for!
