Guest guest
Hi Pam:) I am 9 days post op from upper and lower jaw surgery. By the way I did send you a email back the other day. My lower jaw was moved forward 8mm and the upper jaw widened 4 mm. My 13 year old boy doesn't nor does my 8 year old. Out of all my brothers and sisters I was the only 1. Now My Aunt on my Dads side has the same problem I did. She had lost all her teeth a while ago due to this. Also my Dads Brother and my Dads Mother so I do believe It can skip generations. Hope you recovery is going ok. Dennis In orthognathicsurgerysupport , " v123violet " <v123violet@y...> wrote: > Does anyone have any children that have a 'recessed' jaw? Guest guest
you can lose your teeth do to this? I have an extreme case of bad bite. My orthodontist said on a scale of 1-10 it's a 9.9 in severity. I have a diagnostic on wednesday, where I will be forwarded to an oral surgeon. My insurance company covers the procedure, but only if deemed medically necessary... well aside from the fact that my mouth's normal resting position is one inch open and my teeth stick out, I'm really medically fine ( I think.) Anything I could do about insurance? Maybe perhaps mention the whole eventual loss of teeth thing? --- Irish_Eyes wrote: > Hi Pam:) I am 9 days post op from upper and lower > jaw surgery. Guest guest
Hi Dennis, you're lucky with your kids. I just panicked the other day thinking 'oh my god, my son will have to go through this too'. We have an ortho appt. for him in November, so we'll see. I don't know if I would put him through it. I couldn't find the email you said you sent the other day..... Sounds like we are on the same recovery path, I'm now on day 10, still weak & dizzy but seem to be getting some food into me. Wish I could feel my bottom lip, my spirits would be so much better. I'm not a very patient person. Thanks for the email, good luck with your recovery too. Guest guest
Sometimes these things are indeed genetically linked. I have my papa's mouth, most definitely. (Back when he was a kid, along about 1910-1915 (yep, that's the way the generations break in my family) orthodontics were so painful that he could not bear them. Mercifully, neither of my two efforts in that direction proved so difficult. But the improvements in technology and techniques, not to mention matierals, have been so great that your son may be spared even today's gentler measures. I would urge you to have your son see an orthodontist, and perhaps an oral and maxillofacial surgeon, at the first opportunities. There are gentler ways of directing growth now that may help avoid more extreme measures. Good luck, to you and your son. Cammie > > > Does anyone have any children that have a 'recessed' jaw? Guest guest
Hi Miikey Well I guess it depends on the person to. I was on the way to losing my bottom teeth due to my large overbite. Also I when I closed my mouth my bottom teeth would push into the roof of my mouth damaging my palete whch really made my top teeth protrude out. I was denied by my insurance but my Orthodontist and the orl surgeon sent letters to them along with photo's telling them that this was no way cosmetic. It was mediclly nessasary. You might want to see if your ortho will do the same for you. In orthognathicsurgerysupport , Marocs <miikey723@y...> wrote: > you can lose your teeth do to this? Guest guest
Hi Pam, I also have a 7 year old and a 3 year old that have exactly the same overbite I had. I took him to my orthodontist the other day and He told me that onces all his front adult teeth come out ( when He is about 9 years old) He will have to wear a plate ( top and bottom) which hopefully will fix the problem, if not it will fix it enough to then have some braces when He gets a little bit older(12-13yrs) and not to have to go through this surgery. I don't know how much is going to cost me, but its amazing what orthodontics can do this days. The best thing is to take your son to one and get him examined by an orthodontic and he will explain what choices you have today. Guest guest
My son has problems similar to mine. Follow-up, follow-up. He is currently in braces. The only advice my OD can give is to make sure he follows up as he grows. They are concerned about that last growth spurt, but all we can do is wait. I know what you mean, I hope he doen't have to go through this, but if so, I will be able to lend some insight. ~Rene` > Does anyone have any children that have a 'recessed' jaw? Guest guest
At what age did you notice your child had a similar problem? My daughter is 4 now, but seems to be fine so far. Thanks, Eddy > > Does anyone have any children that have a 'recessed' jaw? I've just > > gone through this surgery and my son has my same jaw (he's 7). Guest guest
Thanks , I'm taking him to an Ortho in November, but since I'm suffering right now with my post-surgery it made me think about what he may have to go through. Hopefully we can correct his problem without this surgery. Pam > > Does anyone have any children that have a 'recessed' jaw? Guest guest
Quite young, actually, even as a baby you could tell he had this little chin - it runs in my Dad's family, we all seem to have this little recessed chin. But, perhaps with the right orthodontics it won't turn out to be a huge bite problem. > > > Does anyone have any children that have a 'recessed' jaw? Guest guest
Hi Pam I know exactly how you feel, my od was very optimistic both my boys will not need the operation, that He will be able to fix them with orthodontics only. Time will tell I guess, but I am glad I have not left it and have done something about it now. Because I had left it so long myself, I had a 15mm overbite before braces and just before surgery the overbite was only 6mm, so the sooner they have the problem corrected the better I was told. -- In orthognathicsurgerysupport , " v123violet " <v123violet@y...> wrote: > Thanks , I'm taking him to an Ortho in November, but since I'm > suffering right now with my post-surgery it made me think about what > he may have to go through.
