Guest guest
Sheri, I went to the store and wrote down all the prices for flour, pancake mix, cake mix, hamburger buns, etc. Then, I deducted the difference in price from the g-f products I bought (including tapioca and potato starch flours). It really paid off tax-wise last year, but I am not sure it's going to be worth all of the trouble this year. We had an appointment with our accountant in August to see what kind of taxes we are going to have to pay for this year (my husband is self-employed). Whatever tax base the government uses and the amount of money my husband and I have made this year so far, the accountant figured out that anything over $6,000 I spent in medical care and the difference in price of g-f foods we can deduct 100%. Between medical bills and the amount of money spent on g-f foods, I am not sure we will reach $6,000. I did fly to Denver for the GIG conference, and supposedly the plane fare is deductible, as well as the Stanford conference I went to. However, I still don't think I will reach the $6,000 limit. It's very time consuming to add and subtract all the prices of products I buy all year. I'll know more as we come to the end of the year. You may want to research your tax base before going to all the trouble of figuring out the difference in food prices. I buy a lot of g-f food because both my daughter and I have been diagnosed with celiac disease. Hope this helps. I think I want to start tracking this, but there are several items that I'm not sure about. For example, I know we can deduct the entire cost of products like xanthan gum, but what about all of the different types of flours. Since our recipes require several different kinds, instead of just one all purpose wheat flour, do we compare the price of all of them to wheat flour, or are there some that we can deduct the entire amount ~ like tapioca or potato starch?? If anyone has any insight on this, please let me know. Thanks!! Sheri _________________________________________________________________ Get MSN 8 Dial-up Internet Service FREE for one month.
