Guest guest
i have asked the principle and the director of head start for an IEP and after they realized what an IEP was (yeah, i had to tell them) they said she was fine and they didn't have to have one for her........as far as school, i know that is a lot of her problem, health wise, and that is why i sent her this year so that maybe it will help her immune system when it comes time for " real " school.with pink eye and green runny nose i know she will miss monday, and tuesday because of her shots.......we will see what happens at school and i will post when i know something....thanks!! Jodi Zwain wrote:Steph, Does Kyla have an IEP? If so, what is her classification? If not, you need to get one done now. She could be classified as other health impaired if she does not qualify for another category. That being said, with the OHI classification, you can have written into her IEP that she is frequently ill and misses school. The school distric then can relax the attendance policy. This is what we have done for Max. Whenever he is absent, it is not a big deal. I think we sometimes have to get a note from the doctor if his absences are extended, but they don't count for the overall total of required days. You should check into this. I will help you if you need it. Jodi P.S. DO NOT send Kyla to school if she is sick with a fever, green, runny nose or anything like that. There is a lot of concern about the spreading of germs, especially with the threat of the avian flu. She should not be in school or near any other kids. It's not good for her or for the others. Guest guest
With the diagnosis of RSS, she should automatically qualify for Other Health Impaired. This requires a statement from a doctor, describing the nature of the health status and the medical needs. It is easy to get and the principal and others SHOULD allow an IEP under the circumstances. They just hate to do them because they require time and money. Jodi Z
